I live in Letterkenny, Donegal and have been able to get all the UK and RTE channels since the switchover, my question is why can't i get Film4, 4Music, UTV4? The moving picture is there it's just distorted/pixelated.
Would appreciate some advice please.

chris: Which transmitter in the North is your aerial directed to?
There is now a two-tier network in the UK. Strabane does not broadcast COM channels (which carry those services that you've identified) so if your aerial is directed to it, then you aren't picking them up from it.

Thanks Dave, my apologies for taking soo long to reply.
So, from what you've said i really just have to stick with what i've got because if i re-directed to another station the signal strength would be weaker and so compromise picture quality?

chris: It all depends on whether you can receive the COM channels from another transmitter and that they are of sufficient quality as those from Strabane are now.
The only possible transmitter, if any, that is likely to give you all channels is Limavady.
Let's suppose that you can receive all channels from Limavady, with the appropriate aerial. Therefore, it may have been the case that you could receive analogue from Limavady before but your installer decided that Strabane was the better signal and easier to receive. At that time both transmitters provided equal service to your location.
Today, "if" Limavady is available to you, it might provide you with the full complement of channels rather than the limited choice of Strabane.
Only an aerial installer can tell you if you have any chance of picking up all channels from Limavady. If not, then you will have to stick with Strabane.

Why on earth is that transmitter in Strabane not transmitting all the freeview channels we should expect to be getting?? The size of that mast lighting up the sky is a joke when it doesn't even give us all the channels, a small Ariel on top of the tv in belfast can pick up more channels. Surely something should and has to be done to sort this out. We live in the age of the digital television and to get 24 tv channels half of them being useless anyway is a joke for the price of the licence fee we now pay.

Aaron : Last time I checked, the licence fee only pays for the BBC, and every transmitter in the country carries the BBC's channels.
Operating 3 more multiplexes from Strabane is hardly going to give the commercial channels much in return - with just 14,000 homes.
If you want more channels, get Freesat.

Aaron : Because your expectation is too great.
The Strabane transmitter broadcasts all Public Service channels, as do all other 1,000+ transmitters.
The Licence Fee goes to the BBC and, as a Public Service Broadcaster, you have the BBC.
The Commercial channels broadcast where they wish to invest in the kit to do so. They have no obligation to provide a service, only turn a profit, which is why they don't bother with the transmitters that will give them relatively few viewers.
