Will the Strabane relay remain a lite transmitter or will it be boosted to provide complete channel list including ITV3,4, Film 4,Dave etc.

If it remains lite would a freesat dish instead of a conventional aerial get all the freeview stations or is it a case of tough luck geographically.

Thanks

md23040: No, it will stay Freeview Lite.

See here for an explanation which applies equally for Strabane:

Here is a comparison full-Freeview vs Freesat:

ITV3 is on Freesat contrary to its logo appearing with those that aren't on Freesat.

Is the Strabane HD multiplex on Ch. 39 operational on this transmitter yet as I can't pick it up. I use a Walker HD Saorview box to feed an old Tv, and also my Sony KDL 46X3000 which has an MP4 tuner that tunes Saorview but not the Freeview HD multiplex. Neither can pick up the HD Channel 39. Do I require a Freeview HD box ?.

Patrick Keeney: I imagine so.

Saorview uses DVB-T signals, even though they carry HD. Freeview uses DVB-T2 only for HD signals. Look in the spec to see if it has a DVB-T2 tuner.

Edward McClintock: RT won't be broadcast from Strabane. You will have to see if you can receive it from one of the transmitters in the Republic using a second aerial.

Strabane

As Strabane is the tallest transmitter in Ireland would it not have covered a wider
area had it been a main transmitter?
I see limavady transmitter covers more of Donegal, County Down and parts of Scotland than Derry or Strabane district.
As a licence payer I expect the same service in Derry and Strabane as Coleraine.

seamus o'doherty: Where the transmitters are depends on the terrain. It is unusual to have such a tall transmitter being so low powered.

Another reason that might have come into play was (I assume) the fact that the objective when the (former analogue) network was built was to serve only the North. Strabane and Derry are close to the border and therefore the higher the power they use the more overspill there would be. The difficulty as far as reception goes is because the area near/on the border is in a valley.

The Licence Fee does not give any guarantee as to the availability of any signals. It goes to the BBC only and as a Public Service Broadcaster, the BBC broadcasts from Strabane.
