I have complained to the BBC and MP several times about not being able to receive local news since north Gloucestershire started being covered by BBC West several years ago. The initial response from the BBC was that I would need to get cable or satellite TV to receive BBC West. A later response from BBC Gloucestershire was that they have had a lot of complaints and were looking at the problem. I did consider Freesat but several channels I watch on Freeview are not available. The BBC does give very good local news coverage for north Gloucestershire so if you would like to receive it on Freeview please complain to the BBC.

I agree that it is a ridiculous situation about the North Gloucestershire area.
Currently on analogue channel 6 if you have one of those Samsung wide screen TV's by the way,ITV West/HTV West is on there and broadcasting the regional news and weather for the whole Gloucestershire,in contrast,Freeview channel3 in the N.Gloucestershire area is STILL stuck with ITV Central which is hardly appropriate for this part of the West Country!,Ditto still have BBC Midlands Today.
This was an issue that should have been resolved a few years ago, that the N.Gloucestershire area SHOULD be getting both BBC and ITV West channels but wes still haven't,why do places like Stroud and the Forest of Dean have them and Gloucester,Cheltenham,Tewkesbury and surroundng areas still stuck with both BBC & ITV Midlands is beyond me when there is no cultral affiliation to the Midlands!!.
What me and others want to know is on the switchover day in N.Gloucestershire will BBC &ITV West FINALLY be replacing the Midlands ITV and BBC,the fact is West NOT Central is the ITV region for Gloucs.,and we should also be getting Points West instead of Midlands Today.

Dave: BBC West does not and never has broadcast from Ridge Hill on analogue or digital. There are no plans to add it.
ITV1 West analogue was only added at the end of 2006, as part of ITV plc's reorganization of its news regions. The former Central South news region was split, with Oxford joining Meridian North to produce ITV Thames Valley, and Ridge Hill's main ITV1 frequency transmitting the Central West service from Birmingham, along with the digital service.

Andrew Harris: Could you get ITV1 West on analogue before switchover?
The ITV1 West mini-mux is broadcast from a separate antenna much further down the mast, and aimed into the Cheltenham and Gloucester area - it doesn't have the same radiation pattern as the other multiplexes.
It's also only on one-quarter the power of the others, until mid-October. (Oxford is using the channel for low-power Mux D until 28 September.).
