scott: Can't be sure without a postcode, but until switchover in 2012, you can only receive Freeview HD if you receive a signal direct from the Pontop Pike transmitter.

Hi, purchased HD TV last month but no HD channels available so far here in Gilesgate, Durham, DH1 1DH. I assume we use Pontop Pike (which should be OK for HD?) but perhaps not accessing it directly - do you have any suggestions? All other Freeview channels are fine. Thanks, Nick

Nick: The Digital UK postcode checker predicts all muxes from Pontop Pike (including HD)are available with good reception at your location. Is your aerial mounted with the rods horizontal? (If they are vertical you could be using Fenham which has no HD mux currently) Check that you have no equipment such as a VCR or Sky box with the RF output set to C63.Have you tried doing a manual tune on C63?

I live in NE30 3NQ postcode and use BT Vision, since 4th January I've lost Sky News channel 82, I've retuned several times and sometimes pick it up, sometimes not, when I do pick it up I get no picture and stuttering sound. Everything was fine until this time, is there a transmission problem in this area?

Hi I checked the aerial - horizontal so should be OK. Manual tuning of channel 63 - no signal. I checked all receivable channels and came up with 48,53,55,59,62,65.
I wonder if the problem is with the aerial itself - it was replaced about 8 years ago; also compared with others nearby it seems to point slightly more to the west as if it is more directed to Burnhope than Pontop Pike, both of which are visible from here - Burnhope completely, and the top red light of Pontop can be seen at night... is it just a matter of more precise positioning?

Nick: Yes, if the aerial is not directly pointing at the transmitter this will reduce the signal quite a lot, and will probably explain why you can't get C63.
