andy, the signal strength on most Freeview channels from Oxford is currently well below the value it will be after 28 Sep 2011. The power on some multiplexes will increase by a factor of about 900% on 28 Sep 2011.
So yes, atmospheric vagaries could well cause intermittent reception until then. Higher frequencies (e.g. Ch 68 as used for ITV1, Chan 4 etc) are also attenuated rather more than lower frequencies (e.g. Ch 29 as used for Yesterday, Film 4 etc.) and your antenna must be suitable for all the channels you wish to receive.
But after 28 Sep 2011, things should be much better!

Andy also being in Swindon I share your frustration, never a week goes by without ITV disappearing. I re-tune after half and hour or so usually gets it back, until the next time.

bbc 1 bbc 2 bbc 3 and bbc news etc basically mux 1 i believe, have all dissappeared as of 2 weeks ago,they all worked fine till then, i have tried every posibble fix that i have found on this site and others, cables rescans etc etc only thing i have not tried is getting on roof and looking at aerial, HP23 5DD oxford transmitter, i am at a loss as to what is problem, like i said they all worked fine till 2weeks ago

can't get channel 4 , itv 1 or 2 , 5 and a few others in summer town now for a few weeks , is this just how its going to be now or is there a fault ? or do i have to buy new equipment ?

Here in GL7 Cirencester borders we have NO Freeview BBC channels or very intermittent signal today and currently, anyone else in the area? The BS of atmospherics or bounce back blah blah will no doubt be the automated answer.I'm gonna miss good old analogue for sure.

We don't have a problem, state of the art equipment. It's a transmiiter issue or maybe Brize Norton?? Always suspected they can influence our reception. No way a little smattering of ground mist can cause this loss of a digital signal.Can it? Anyway, HD recorded a blank screen of 'Episodes'.It's back now, so here's to the next time a fluffy cloud rolls across west Oxfordshire.
