The bright green areas shown where the signal from this transmitter is strong, dark green areas are poorer signals. Those parts shown in yellow may have interference on the same frequency from other masts.

I often have no freeview signal during heavy rain from Mynydd Machen transmitter. No signal today. Is there a problem with the location of this transmitter during poor weather?

John Bowen :
Reception will be dependant on location, we need a full postcode to look at the predicted reception for you locale, you may not be getting a strong enough signal.
There is another possibility, your aerial connections or downlead may have degraded and water is getting in which will severely affect the signal arriving at your set. How old (roughly) is the aerial and downlead?

G.pugh: Presumably it will come back on once the fault listed in the engineering post above yours has been fixed. This is an independent technical help website, we don't have any more information on faults or engineering work than what is already publicly available.

Apart from Mynydd Machen, which is now line-fed rather than a relay of Wenvoe, two other transmitters which are relays via Mynydd Machen, are off-air, Wattsville and Pennar.
I suspect with the atrocious winds there have been there'll be a power cut somewhere that's causing this.
The BBC are still reporting them as off-air, but the reports may not yet have been updated and you may have your signals back. If not, do NOT retune as it'll likely just clear your correct tuning.

Anthony Riddiford: I'm not sure what you mean about EE getting involved (they may share the mast for their mobile base station but have nothing to do with transmitting Freeview) but there have been multiple faults recorded today, which may well be related to damage caused by the recent storms.

Transmitter engineering do not read here or post here. The information is collated from Engineering pages. EE have no involvement in the TV or other broadcast transmitters, I don't know where you get that idea from!
Yes, the BBC have reported that the transmitter went off air due to a fault at 9.20pm
It may have escaped your attention but there were some severe winds the other day, and reading between the lines of the information available, one of the outages was due to the feed to the transmitter being affected by a power cut affecting several parts of the NP11 postcode area.
That cut appears to have had some other consequences. Details of faults are never provided by Arqiva (who are responsible for the transmitter maintenance etc.) nor by the BBC.
It could be that temporary repairs were made to restore power and some interruption has occurred since to make more permanent repairs. It's even possible that the antenna were damaged by the winds and interruptions would be needed to make repairs.
Two other transmitters are affected by the same issue as they are linked relays, Wattsville and Pennar.
Transmitters are not routinely interrupted for the fun of it!
