Kev: The strange thing is though, although both systems are DVB-T, the UK uses MPEG2 while ROI uses MPEG4 encoding - Sony's website states your model only has MPEG2 so technically it shouldn't be able to display the channels!

This from the manual spec ....
TV System

Before I put the aerial on the roof I made sure it worked although I also have a View 21 set top box for recording.
Initially I used a £20 "Picnic" box bought from Comet.

It is CH23 andCH26 not CH23 and CH 39.

Kev: how would I begin to try and find a signal ? I have built in hd freeview samsung tv so install a powerful antenna with the correct polarisation and point west? I'm on the coast of Wales getting all the Irish fm radio channels. Help greatly appreciated

Hello All,
I need some advice please. I live in Haverford, Pembrokeshire but not to far from the Irish sea (about 20 minutes away from Fishguard). I have a telescopic (rabbit ears) aerial in the loft connected to FM signal ampilifer. I can receive the RTE FM radio sometimes. My aerial (rabbit ears) is vertical. My question is should the aerial vertical or should I have horizontial (Please forgive my spelling) or should on verticle and the horizontial?
