The symbol shows the location of the Mendip (Somerset, England) transmitter which serves 720,000 homes. The bright green areas shown where the signal from this transmitter is strong, dark green areas are poorer signals. Those parts shown in yellow may have interference on the same frequency from other masts.

Are there any planned engineering works or unexpected transmitter faults on the Mendip (Somerset, England) mast?

Williton area signal was great through the winter, last week it's been very poor. I realise we are on fringe of Mendips but any reason why signal has gone from excellent to awful in the last week, especially on 46 and similar Freeview channels?
Thanks kindly,
Dave.

david carter: Please provide a full postcode so we can see predicted reception for your exact location. Also, have you checked all the cables and connections behind the TV? A loose or damaged cable or connector often turns out to be the cause of problems such as this.

david carter: I'm having the same issue. For the past few weeks my bbc1 2. ITV and channel 4 and 5 had signals through my YouView box have been pixelating. I rescanned and now they don't appear at all. Is the signal strength low? I'm high up in Clifton in bristol

Keith rodgerson: There has been no recent engineering work affecting Freeview transmissions from Mendip. Signal strength is never reduced from any transmitter for any other reason and never constantly for several weeks. As per my reply to David Carter, check the cabling behind your TV for a loose or damaged cable or connection, then work your way back as far as you can safely access towards the aerial. If you provide a full postcode someone may be able to offer more specific advice.

Keith Rodgerson:

I can confirm that Mendip does not have any current problems and has not had over the last several weeks. I use Mendip as my main Freeview source. StevensOnln1 is correct in that transmitter power is never educed for any significant length of and is only temporarily reduce if there is some major engineering work being carried out, it always returns to normal as soon as the work is completed.

I posted about 10 days ago about recent poor reception on Freeview esp channels such as 46, 12, and others. Unwatchable and dire pixillation.
Possibly a combination of living on the fringe Mendips reception area and the very warm temperatures we have had, as I've done nothing to my TV at all, but today, Bank Holoday Monday (wet and not that warm) all the 'iffy' channels are back on fine, not breaking up at all.
Just thought anyone in TA24 area might be interested.

Dave: MikeP asked you to supply a full postcode and signal strength, but you havn't. Realistically, if your having the same problem again and again, there is a fundamental issue with your system, or you need to look at alternatives. But your system wont right itself - it will just recover a bit for a while.

Dave: As you already know you are very definitely in a fringe area. If your normal reception during hot weather (eg. last year or any previous occasions this year) is ok, then something may have changed. This could be something in your aerial system/coax/connections as already mentioned/suggested by the two Mikes which has now made your reception marginal/weather dependant. It may also be something directly in the direction of the transmitter - eg. tree growth now at a height that is causing issues, but I think that less likely as you have reported good reception in the wet weather on Monday.
I suspect that it may be interference of some sort, possibly from another transmitter (that could even be a new/upgraded mobile phone mast) which may be weather dependant but possibly made worse if something in your installation has degraded - things can do so over time, it's no good saying nothing has changed, I've done nothing etc etc.
As already suggested, give your installation a thorough check-out first.
