Can you tell me when more channels will be added to the Kingsbridge transmitter eg Dave? excuse my ignorance but I don't understand why Kingsbridge has a lot less channels than Caradon Hill, given Kingsbridge is a relay of Caradon Hill?

Paul: Never.
There are now two types of broadcaster in the UK: Public Service (PSB) and Commercial (COM).
The Commercial ones are purely profit-driven organisations and the Public Service ones, as the name implies, have a Public Service obligation.
The COM channels achieve coverage of 90% of the population by broadcasting from 81 of the largest transmitters (largest by viewer population).
There are over 1,000 PSB-only relays like Kingsbridge which serve about 8.5% of the population. For the COMs to add them to their portfolio would roughly double their cost of transmission. As they operate purely for profit derived from advertisers which requires viewers, then they wish to acquire most viewers at lowest possible cost. For this reason it isn't surprising that they don't wish to double their cost of transmission in order to add about 10% to their existing viewer base.

Many thanks Dave. Looks like SKY have the market cornered for channels like Dave in rural areas but you have to pay

Paul: Again, it is down to individual channels what platforms they wish to go on.
I guess that it is probably more profitable for them to pay to be free-to-air on the Freeview Commercial channels as well as Sky's subscription service.

Hi, we are getting a poor/intermittent signal ref SX562463, stoke beach aimed at Aveton Gifford. Can you advise best signal and horizontal or vertical set up. Thanks (SX562463)

Gary Smith: The only transmitter you have a good chance of getting a line-of-sight to is Kingsbridge (east, 101 degrees, 16km) which is vertical.
However, you need to have an aerial about 25 meters above ground level to achieve a line-of-sight.
To be honest - you should probably use Freesat if you want a reliable reception method.

Hi - I am getting a good strong signal for BBC channels from the Kingsbridge Transmitter on C46 but the ITV signals on C43 are very poor and fluctuate. Is there anything I can do to address this?

Bob Partridge: A location, preferably in the form of postcode, is imperative as it's a reception issue. If you live out of sight of the transmitter and where reception is predicted as non-existent then it may be a case of keep moving the aerial in the hope of securing a good spot and hoping it lasts.

Dave - thanks for replying, my postcode is TQ7 4AH, the location of the aerial is 5018'57.3"N 349'06.7"W. Its within the reception area according to the maps on this website, Any advice / suggestions would be most welcome.

Bob Partridge: Using a six-figure OS Landranger reference, as required by the terrain plotter, the base point is almost where the long/lat co-ordinates you gave resolve to. The plot shows that transmitter can't be seen due to higher ground at Churchstow:
Terrain between ( m a.g.l.) and (antenna m a.g.l.) - Optimising UK DTT Freeview and Radio aerial location
With that postcode the Digital UK Coverage Checker doesn't return any result, not even a very poor one.
If this is correct, and you can't see the transmitter, and by such a degree, then maybe what I said still holds -- that it's a case of moving the aerial hoping to find a sweet spot.
Freesat might be the best course of action, just so long as the dish doesn't get snow on it!
