Thanks Briantist and kmj. We have downsized to an apartment in a block of flats so have to rely on internal ariel. Have emailed ITV but don't expect any meaningful response. I can't understand why ITV don't give us ITV4 given their investment in sport. 8% of potential viewers sounds like a group worth catering for. However, logic doesn't seem to count in in Freeview lite.

Chris: To cover the extra 8%, another 1000+ transmitters would need to be provided for, which would be 13 times the number provided already. It's just not economic, outside the cross-subsidy provided by the BBC and ITV/C4.

Mike Dimmick: LA97LB above is not my aerial, but one nearby and I was just checking the direction before I advised them. The present aerial(I think a Televes DAT45(W/Band type) has been erected pointing correctly at Lancaster(188 Deg./Vertical). Chimney mounted on 1 metre pole and seems to have a masthead amp.
BUT, IT HAS BEEN SET-UP IN THE HOREZONTAL PLANE ?
They are new to the area and have hardly moved in, so I have now left a note advising them to rotate through 90Deg. when they have time.

Mrs Aspin: Which channels are you or have you had issues with?

It may be helpful if I point out that Kendal Fell transmitter is a Public Service one only (carries BBC, ITV1, ITV2, Channel 4, E4, More 4, Channel 5, HD and a few others).

If you are receiving Commercial channels such as ITV3, Pick TV, Yesterday, Dave, Film 4 and many others, then you are not picking them up from Kendal Fell. If your aerial faces Kendal Fell and you pick up these channels, then poor reception of these channels may ensue.

The solution is to have an aerial fitted for another transmitter which carries these services, *if* you are in a location where such signals can be picked up reliably.

See also the postings from "Transmitter engineering" above and before yours. It is from the BBC and says "Wrong Region" from 23:37 to 03:13. I wonder if this was your cause. Has the problem corrected itself?

I've been experiencing above average channel loss over the last month from the Kendal Fell Transmitter (Freeview). BBC channels have been fine (no loss) but for the most part the independent channels have been showing "No Signal" on my TV.

The aerial is situated in my attic and has provided good reception up until a month ago.

I've checked the cable and connections and nothing seems untoward.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance...

Barbara : The problem referred to is almost certainly related to the engineering works presently taking place at the Kendal transmitter, Digital UK having listed the station with a status of "possible service interuptions".
