MR G. STREET : The Ilfracombe transmitter won't be upgraded to provide any additional channels. Also, this website has noting to do with operating the transmitters. Your TV licence funds the BBC and S4C and entitles you to watch broadcast television and BBC iPlayer. You are not paying for any other channels via your TV licence. If you want additional channels without a subscription you should look at getting Freesat.

Ilfracombe today switched to channels 33, 36 and 48. Viewers using the Ilfracombe relay should note that on
17th July 2019 the transmitter at Carmel in South Wales is scheduled to switch to channels 23,26,29,33,36
and 48. These last three will be on the same frequencies as Ilfracombe. Despite opposite polarity, due to the effect of the Bristol Channel tidal rise and fall, at a previous switchover there were significant co-channel interference problems when Ilfracombe channels were adopted by Carmel. Deja vu???

Michael : I think I remember reading some time ago that viewers affected by co-channel interference following the frequency changes would be offered a subsidised Freesat installation if no alternative transmitter could be used. Two new transmitters have opened in Swindon and Worcester to provide a solution to co-channel problems in those areas.

Let's hope they will be more competent this time round! Last time, some viewers found they could get a line-of-sight to the Freesat satellite. For others this was not feasible due to obstructions etc. The Ilfracombe relay erp was increased to help "override" co-channel interference from Carmel. After a while, it went quiet again, so I assume most found a solution. This time many will have the broadband option. This may be what is at the back of the minds of 5G planners :-)

Possibly wild weather related?
OR BBC demise presaged?
