MBNA:

Neither Freeview nor the BBC are currently reporting any problems with the Hemel Hempstead relay (6 muxes) nor is it listed for Planned Engineering.
Have you got your signals back now? If you retuned when there was no signal it will have cleared all correct tuning and you'll need to repeat a retune when there is signal.

If you still have no signal, then check all you coax plugs, connections, flyleads etc, unplug connectors check for corrosion or other problems and reconnect them. Flyleads can be a common problem, try swapping them. See what signal strengths (if any) and quality you are getting for the multiplexes shown in your TV's tuning section, this might indicate potential issues with your aerial or downlead. Also check that your downlead looks undamaged and that your aerial seems intact and pointing in the correct direction.
Problematic connections, water ingress etc. can seem to affect reception of just an individual or several multiplexes.

MBNA:

There have been issues with the local power supplies in the vicinity of the Hemel Hempstead transmitter recently that have caused sporadic interruptions to transmissions. The site is supplied via overhead wiring using 2 circuits, however one of these is out of action for maintenance ATM. These may have coincided with you trying to retune.

If your problem is constant then look for issues with your installation.

Thanks for the update. It's highly annoying that the BBC (who are normally quite good at reporting) have not mentioned this.

Transmitter engineering: This interruption wascaused by a failure of the overhead electricity supply to the site & the surrounding area. UK Power networks restored the supply at 20.00 on 20 Aug.

All the Freeview equipment on the site is supported by a permanent backup generator that was installed following previous long interruptions. The Freeview transmissions cover a large area from this site so this was deemed a worthwhile investment. The other services from the site are basically infill (BBC3CR & Heart FM services are available locally on other frequencies, DAB will default to other transmissions that overlap in most of the area) & are not worth the expense of supporting.

COM 4 on the Hemel Transmitter is glitching and unwatchable. All other COMs are OK
Is it on low power?

Keith:

I can't find any faults listed for Hemel Hempstead nor is it currently listed for Planned Engineering.
As you haven't given a full postcode, I can't advise if your predicted reception for COM4 may be worse than the other multiplexes.

You may have been briefly affected by current weather conditions causing some "Tropospheric Ducting" which usually results in interference from other transmitters. Don't retune in any conditions where you have interference or no signal as this usually just clears you correct tuning or incorrectly tunes to other transmitters whose signals disappear as conditions change.

If you did retune, check you are still tuned to UHF C37 for the COM4/SDN multiplex at Hemel Hempstead.
If your problems continue post back with a full postcode and which of the channels on COM4 you are specifically trying to watch.

John Mulrooney: According to the post above yours there is engineering work taking place at the Hemel Hempstead transmitter this week. As this kind of work is often dependant on weather conditions etc they don't usually provide a completion date.

My aerial is in the loft, and l was receiving some 149 channel,s, including HD channels, but recently all my he channels are pixelated , and unwatchable. I have tried your advice on a retune etc
I understand there are engineering works from 19/07/2024. My aerial is pointing towards Crystal Palace transmitter. I would be most grateful if you can assist me in this matter,
