howard barratt: If your BBC is reasonably good then its liable to be through luck, as the trade view reception predictor (for what its worth!) only indicates mux Ch40 (ITV3 etc) as being good from Hannington, the BBC and ITV as being poor and the remainder as variable.
Crystal Palace, the only other station that's shown as possible to receive, is even worse with only the BBC and two commercial muxes indicated as being possible, but in the category of "poor".
As far as Hannington is concerned the situation isn't shown as changing until April 4th next year, Crystal Palace though still being iffy, as although it gets slightly better it deteriorates again in June.
You are obviously in a difficult reception area, and so only the time consuming exercise of experimenting with different aerial positions is liable to help the situation as nothing can really be guaranteed to work in circumstances such as yours, your snowy analogue reception being a clue as to how bad the signal you are receiving is.

We have just bought a Humax HDR-FOX T2 in the hope of getting Freeview HD channels. I understand from Humax customer support that the HD multiplex is not available from the Guildford transmitter. Will it be at some point in the future? Otherwise, perhaps it would be more sensible for us to point our aerial at the Crystal Palace transmitter.
Postcode: KT24 5SN
Our aerial is on the roof. Freeview standard definition reception is excellent from the Guildford transmitter.

Peter Eaton: You are presently not really predicted to receive anything other than the BBC multiplex from Guildford and with this shown as being poor, although from April 18th ITV plus the HD service comes into the equation, but once again all indicating poor and not changing at any time.
However come April 4th it is indicated that you should be able to get excellent reception across the board from Crystal Palace when it switches to high power operation.
Just out of interest, you should carry out a signal strength check on the channel you do get, as if its weak but stable, this will be giving the impression of the signal being good.

cass: Is it a PVR-9300T or PVR-9300T/500 by any chance?
If so, it is on the list of firmware updates being broadcast:
DTG :: DTT Receiver Downloads
I am wondering if it was in the process of updating or was about to update when you switched it off.
If you turn it off at the wall when you aren't using it, then you would be best advised to leave it turned on so (hopefully) it will perform the update whlst unattended.
Look at the version that it is running. The one being broadcast is UPTTF 1.00.026. Is it older than this? If so, I would suspect that it is going to attempt to update.

JoeB: If you wait until 18th April 2012, you will be able to get 80% of the Freeview services from the Crystal Palace transmitter with a normal rooftop aerial.
The Hanninton will give you, from 22nd February 2012, the public service Freeview channels, but not a full service.
All you need is a "Class I" rooftop aerial. It would be sensible to use satellite-grade coaxial cable as you might stand a good chance of getting the whole Freeview service from the Crystal Palace transmitter.

Ref: previous posting... I receive from the Hannington transmitter.
As at 11am all MUX2 transmissions seem to be back to normal... I have a 10 element aerial with an amplifier which gives me a signal quality of 2/3 on MUX1 A / C and 1/2 on MUX2 / B. MUX D seems to be the best quality of 4/5; Signal strength is several points higher than the quality... usually about 3 points.

I think that I can see why SDN and ArqA an ArqB are low power from Hannington until 4th/18th April... it's because the adjacent very low power Guldford transmitter has the same 3 channels (41 / 44 / 47) allocated to its MuXs. On 4/18 April they will switch to Ch48 / 46 / 52 respectively.
The Guildford MuXs are SDN / D3&4 /ArqA respectively.
