Hi, we lost all freeview on 28 july, I ran all the usual test and nothing, the aerial was very old so bought a new one and still nothing, any help would be greatly apreciated.

Iain : If changing the aerial has not resolved your problem then the obvious question would be, have you have checked with any other residents living nearby just to make sure that it isn't a transmitter problem?
That said, and although this is unlikely to be applying, but as you are located at only 6 miles away from the transmitter then you "might" be suffering from a signal overload situation when using that type of aerial and which is something that can completely block out reception, so needless to say that if you are using any type of booster in line try by passing it then carrying out another auto scan, this action being necessary as no channels will be stored in the memory, however if no booster is being used then try a short piece of wire (about 18" or so min) connected into the aerial socket before carrying out an auto scan.
If still nothing, the next thing to try is go into your TV or boxes tuning menu - manual tune (should it have this facility) and enter Ch58 which is BBC from Gartly, as in most devices (excl some Sony's) as soon as this channel number is entered the signal strength / quality that the signal (if any) is being received at should instantly show "without" having to scan.
If you do not see anything then try entering Ch28 this being BBC from Durris, as I did notice that the property sitting parallel to the one with a stainless steel external chimney has an aerial facing Durris, and you "might" get a trace of a signal from there on the rear (near anyway) of your aerial which would indicate that your receiver is OK.
These are a few things to try, but the main one is to try and determine if you are the only one with the problem.

Thankyou, Have sort of sorted it found a crushed area in new cable, that sorted, got a bit of a signal ended up pointing aerial north to get any signal, then only got it on good on bbc, bad on every thing else moved it a bit east good bbc and dodgy for others then moved it back to where it should point and every thing ok for a while then lost it all again apart from bbc just moved it again great signal on every thing but the bbc is week

I am unable to get any signal in Huntly (AB54) area at all.
Recently all I was getting was BBC channels so when I did a retune last night.
I've tried doing a retune & channel scan a number of times but get nothing. It's pretty pointless getting a new tv & aerial within the last few months which now doesn't allow me to watch TV!

Grant: Predictor indications suggest that you should have good reception from the Gartley Moor transmitter at 5 miles / 160 degrees, the aerial being vertically mounted. (elements up and down)
You should carry out a signal check on Gartley's BBC mux Ch58, this done by going into your TV / boxes "manual" tuning menu and entering Ch58 into the box, but with this action NOT followed by pressing search or scan, because should any signal be received its strength / quality level will on most equipment be indicated immediately after entering the channel number.
Should anything be received, then make a note of the levels seen and then change the number to Ch61 (ITV1), once again as before noting what's indicated and giving an update on the result.

Grant: As Dave Lindsay has pointed out you are making postings under two different headings, that of Durris and Gartley Moor, as I had replied to you on the 21st under this heading of Gartley Moor and with Dave Lindsay and KMJ,Derby replying to the same posting you had made under Durris.
This being a duplicate posting to a reply I made to you under Durris a few minutes ago.
Could you please clarify regarding what's actually meant by "watch TV in my own room"? as this could be taken as inferring that you are possibly using a shared aerial, also when you say "by linking a cable to the HDMI socket", HDMI sockets on what devices?

I am thinking of buying a portable dab radio for use in Huntly. I can obviously tune in through my humax box but wanted a compact unit to move around the garden etc. Before changeover the signal was really dire and subject to interference. Has this improved?

Do you mean that you get digital radio services using your Humax Freeview box? Freeview transmit up to 24 digital radio services, see http://www.freeview.co.uk…els, but they are not DAB services.
DAB uses a different way of broadcasting radio services and different transmitters, but the service is not available everywhere. I gather from Huntly Radio, for Radio in Huntly, Aberdeenshire, UK that DAB is available in the Huntly, Aberdeen area but reception depends on proximity to the transmitter and any intervening hills, tall buildings, etc.
