Lee: If your aerial is facing the Faversham transmitter then it only broadcasts the Public Service (PSB) channels. The Commercial (COM) channels are only available from the largest transmitters. Therefore there is a small proportion of the population who can only receive the PSB channels.
If you are picking up the COM channels (ITV3, Pick TV, Film4 etc) with your aerial vertical and pointing to the Faversham transmitter then you are receiving them off-beam of your aerial and therefore that explains why reception may be hit and miss - that is because the aerial is only designed to receive from the direction to which it faces.

Ive just done a full rescan, and when it comes to saving, I get 3 options
London 19 services
East Anglia 8 services
South east 6 services
I think Ive had it on south east in the past? Should I select London instead?

lee: The "region" you select affects the transmitter you are receiving from.
"London" will be the Crystal Palace transmitter.
"East Anglia" will be Sudbury/Rouncefall.
If you select either of the above your aerial is pointing the wrong way for them.
"South East" is, presumably, the one you want.
Having done that, see which channels you have. If your aerial is pointing at the Faversham transmitter then it will be vertical (elements up/down) and you will only receive PSB channels. In which case you may wish to have your aerial changed to face Bluebell Hill (to give you all channels).

lee: Having selected "South East", go to the following services and bring up the signal strength screen. Read off the UHF channel number for each (or frequency in MHz if the channel number isn't shown):
1 BBC One
3 ITV
101 BBC One HD (if applicable)
10 ITV3
11 Pick TV
15 Film4
This will tell us which transmitter each is being received from.

Lee: If all you have done is to carry out the mux channel check then reception of ITV2+1 will be erratic from the Bluebell Hill transmitter "if" your aerial is still facing the Faversham vertically polarised transmitter located on a bearing of 255 degrees, the Bluebell Hill transmitter being on a bearing of 271 degrees radiating on horizontal polarity.
That said though, the reception predictor does indicate Ch45 as providing a variable level of reception, likewise Ch39 and Ch43.

Well its the same problem again tonight. Seems all stations on 39 and 45 are affected. Keep losing reception all the time.
So are we going to have to get someone out to reposition the aerial?
Reception is perfect through the winter, its only when it gets to summer and the muggy hot evenings that there is a problem (from about 15:00 to 01:00. And its always the same stations that go, Im guessing these are on the same channel? If its ok during the day during the summer, surely it should be ok in the evenings?

Dave Freeman:
This is not the website to use to contact Arqiva about transmitter problems.
The 'digitaluk trade' entry below your post suggests that Faversham is likely to give variable reception at your location, but Bluebell Hill could be better.
There is a posting under yours from Transmitter Engineering (drawn from the BBC Engineering website) that shows there is work on problems at Faversham.
