David Parker, Sorry to hear of your loss in such a way, mine ran off with my best friend (whoever he is), enough said about that.
Yes, please do google and select AV Forums. I can not say anything on here about what I found as a certain supermarket chain may want to sue, but DO have a read, it's very enlightening.
This applies to anyone else with this particular box.

As my Mum used to say, "buy the best you can sfford, it is cheaper in the long run". All I can suggest is to take it back and ask for something which is "fit for purpose", this box seems to be inadequate.
All the best, Ron.

I have been into tesco's today and spoke to Steve one of the tech boys there
Q1 do you switch the unit at night
anwser Yes I turn all my gear off.
Steve said leave it on for a few days A good few people have been in the store in the last few months with the same fault,It seams at night it does some kind of upgradeing. So for the next few days I am going to keep it on.If that does not work I can take it back and they will swap it.

David Parker,
I'm happy if I have been able to help you in any way, however small. At least you got some advice from the seller and can go forward either way from there.
In fairness to Brian and his regular team of techies, there are a lot of different pages / topics to monitor and offer help on. During the switchover which is still ongoing in various parts of the country, they must have their work cut out for them and it IS all done on a voluntary basis. It must also get up their noses when certain people (no names) come on and gripe about lack of channels, when the channels aren't even being transmitted at that location. It is not under their control.
I hope the advice works and if not, you can at least return the item and have something which will work as it should.
Please get back to us after you allowed the box to upgrade to let us know what if anything has improved so that the info can then be shared with anyone else having similar problems.
Best of luck, Hope it works out ok.
Ron.
