John Booth: Does it have a screen?
Basically, all sets are compatible.
If it doesn't have Freeview built in, you just buy a Freeview box and connect it to the set.

Hi

Living over at South Harbour, Eastbourne, the only channels we can definitely get are BBC1,2,ITV1 + CH4 on analogue.

We can't get Virgin here and are not allowed to erect a satellite dish.... so we were extremely happy when we bought a new digital TV 3 months ago and found it could pick up a lot of decent digital channels through the aerial (all the BBCs, ITVs, Channel 5 family etc as well as the unwanted sales/auction channels). Occasionally the picture would warp but very rarely...

But the last couple of days we can't get any digital channel at all - we've even retried retuning, but absolutely nothing gets picked up - just a message regarding our aerial - which hasn't been moved at all.

I guess we've been spoilt, as we were aware that (officially) the service would not be introduced before June 2012, but is there any reason for this recent change, and are we likely to get this basic digital facility back at all soon (i.e. before June 2012)?

Thank you

Hi I live in BN21 4JA area and I know that South Cliff Tower relay is my best option, wish to get the most out of freeview and would prefer Heathfield, would this be possible as I would think that Heathfield is supplying the relay anyway

Peter: You can't get Freeview at all until 13th June 2012, when Heathfield will provide the best service. The relay transmitters have no digital services until switchover.

Hi Briantist,
I realise I cannot get a digital serice until 13th June 2012, but would prefer to get the digital signal from Heathfield rather than South Cliff Tower as channel choice would be far greater, I'm assuming as Heathfield will provide the relay digital signal I'd be able to use Heathfield.

Peter: Digital UK's predictor shows a very good chance of reliable reception from Heathfield at your location, once switchover starts. It gives no prediction now.

Being right next to a relay is no guarantee that you'll be able to get services from the main transmitter. They often use aerial diversity - arrays of aerials, sometimes at radically different heights or on different legs of a tower - to get better rejection of unwanted signals, and usually have more sensitive equipment than your typical domestic receiver. Also, they can frequently put the receive aerials higher up than a normal domestic installation, though this isn't always the case.
