The symbol shows the location of the Divis (Northern Ireland) transmitter which serves 440,000 homes. The bright green areas shown where the signal from this transmitter is strong, dark green areas are poorer signals. Those parts shown in yellow may have interference on the same frequency from other masts.

Peter I agree with you 100%. I'm living in Newry and have a TV with built in freeview. I've been scanning since January in the hope of receiving something to no avail. It stops and scans at ch 23 and 33 etc for a few seconds before invariably finding nothing.

I'm stuck with an expensive TV not living up to it's full expectations all because the digital signal level is so low. Why it can't be increased slightly for the Olympics and the Euro's is anyone's guess.

I'm thinking about contacting my local MP to see if he can do anything.

Downeagle - I believe I heard on both BBCNI and UTV that there was work being undertaken at the Newcastle transmitter during this week (21st - 25th May 2012).

Along with Kilkeel Kieran.

However, since you're receiving Freeview Downeagle, you must have your aerial pointed at Divis.

Most likely due to atmospheric conditions.

Davy,Glengormley. If you were to wait until after DSO is completed in Northern Ireland/Ulster from Wednesday 24 October 2012 onwards, then what you indicated about Divis being yer preferred option certainly will bear fruit. Please bear in mind if you did opt for the main Divis transmitter, you will need preferably a group A aerial,or a group K aerial as an alternative.

Davy: Depends what part of Glegomey your in.

On the Antrim Road down around Pizza Hut for example, most aerials point tooward Carnmoney Hill, but up around the church road and Ballyhenry Road they all seem to receive Divis. After DSO there's going to be a considerable power increase so even areas that can't get Freeview from Divis at the moment may well do so after DSO.

I'd try Digital UK's postcode checker which should give you a rough idea of what will be available after 24th October.

Don't forget, the new RTE NIMM will be broadcast from Carnmoney Hill. If you can't receive the NIMM from Black Mountain it may be worthwhile putting aerials up for both and diplexing them into the one downlead.

I don't think Clermont Carn reaches Glengprmley although who knows what will happen after it increases power to 160kw in October !

I live in Banbridge and can not receive any freeview chanels at all. Is this likely to change?

John: In October the Banbridge relay transmitter will become a Freeview Light transmitter. This means that it will carry Public Service Broadcaster (PSB) services only, those being BBC, UTV, UTV+1, ITV2, Channel 4, Channel 4+1, E4, More 4, Channel 5, and the four HD services.

In order to receive the full range of services, you will need to receive from a main station, probably Divis, if you can.

If you have an aerial on Divis now which picks up the four analogue channels, then it is "likely" to work after switchover.

Again Dave, John may get Divis post DSO when the power increases yo 100/50kw.

You can check what will be available after DSO by using Digitak UK's postcode checker.

Saw on the news yesterday that RTE1, RTE2 and TG4 will be available on Freeview in NI after DSO. Will viewers in NI need a Freeview HD box to watch? Will the RTE channels be broadcast in DVB/T or DVB/T2?
