Russell Willens: Have you checked for any loose or damaged cables or connections behind your TV? The current hot weather conditions are causing TV and radio signals to travel much further than they normally would, resulting in interference from distant transmitters causing reception problems in various parts of the country which may be a factor (although if you've had the same problem for a couple of weeks it is more likely to be a fault somewhere in your aerial system).

ive got a youview box and during the past couple of weeks the picture suddenly goes black then a popup says there is a problem with the ariel to check its connected then it reverts back to the channel am on its more prominent on itv3 than the other channels if thats any help
but as you stated to robert willens its due to the recent hot weather causing the signal to do this could i be getting the same problem as robert?
the signal strength is 93% signal quality 100% as are most of the channels so its definately not a signal problem
i do remember in the 60's that hot weather used to cause interference is this the same type of problem being experienced with digital tv?

Donald Kirkbride:

A signal strength of 93% is too high! Ideally you want between 60% and 85% else the tuner can be overloaded and appear deaf - hence the loss of some/all channels and the misleading message saying no signal.

The weather related problems you saw in the '60s is exactly the same now and affected digital transmissions in exactly same way now as it did the older analogue transmissions. Physics has not changed.

So I advise you to check your signal strengths again and if they are above 85% then you need to reduce them using an attenuator, start with one of 3dB.

the fault of the picture going black then a popup telling me to check the ariel connection hasnt appeared for over a week so am therefore putting it down to being the hot weather affecting the signal

Seems to be off again tonight. Or maybe the wind blew my aerial off the roof...?

Post 3rd October for the 700 MHz clearance Digital UK website recommends a Group T aerial as Com 7 and Com 8 are moving to channels 55 and 56 resp. Your information recommends a Group A aerial and makes no mention of Com7 & 8. Since channels 55 & 56 are in the 700MHz range is this just a temporary move? Any ideas?

Chris:

It is a fact that the owner of this website has not been maintaining it as up to date as we'd all like. However, the Digital UK Coverage Checker is always kept up to date and the best place to look for transmitter information. Look at Digital UK - Coverage checker
