Dave Lindsay : hi dave my problem is im trying sort this out for my mum.What can i do for her thers a big white strip with writing on it across the channel .How do go about getting rid of it?

Sharon: To retune your TV first select menu from the remote control. Tuning options will either be under settings, set up, or installation. Look for something that says either auto tune or update channels. You may also come across a section that says tuning menu. Some TVs also have the tuning menu under a section labelled "channels".
You should consult the instruction manual if you have it handy. Alternatively, if you Google the make and model number these should be available online.

If you're getting an on screen message then you're clearly in an area that receives Saorview so a postcode check shouldn't be necessary.

If yes, then I guess you are watching the "old" standard definition RT One.
If the TV receives Freeview and Saorview then maybe BBC One is on logical channel number 1 and that RT may be in the 800s. You may find that the "new" RT One HD is further up in the 800s. Depending on design of the set you may be able to swap the new RT One HD for the old RT One.

What appears in my posting as "RT" should be RTE with an E-acute but for some reason doesn't display like that (on my PC at least).

Hi all!
From my understanding of RTE's way forward is to only transmit all of its stations in high definition - this means that all RTE stations will over the next few months will no longer be available in standard definition. It looks like TV3 (Ireland) and its sister station will remain in standard definition but I am not sure about this.
