Transmitter engineering: All yesterday afternoon, evening and today our
BBC digital channel 23 tv and radio programmes are unwatchable with pixelated pictures and sound. BBC HD and all other channels are fine.
We have had occasional problems in the past but nothing like this!
We have retuned properly and checked all connections etc

Hi I am pointed at Budleigh Salteron and get 60% at 100% quality on channels 60 and 53 but do not pick up any HD channels from channel 57 Any clues as to why?

Peter : You will need a Freeview HD (or DVB-T2) receiver. Can you please see Are you really watching free TV in high definition? | ukfree.tv - 10 years of independent, free digital TV advice ?

Jennifer Mather : A quick look on Google Maps suggests that the aerials in your location are receiving from Beacon Hill (not Budleigh Salterton or Stockland Hill).
Try retuning, but without the aerial plugged in initially - the scan needs to get about one third of the way across - then plug the aerial in. This should capture the Beacon Hill signals and "miss" the Stockland Hill signals which appear to be causing the problem.
If your TV tunes too quickly for the aerial trick, you'll need to manually tune for the Beacon Hill channels (42, 45, 51, 53, 57 & 60).

Jennifer Mather: Check that BBC is tuned to C60 for Beacon Hill/Budleigh Salterton and NOT C62 which is Dawlish or C26 which is Stockland Hill.

JimF: Budleigh Salterton is a new (PSB-only) relay transmitter that only came into service at switchover (May 2009). Granted, the Streetview pictures were taken in April 2010.

I too have lost all channels 1-9 and had bad interference last night as did Robert. I am a pensioner, not technically minded. If I do nothing will it right itself or what can I do? Thank you

The Budleigh Salterton transmitter is said to be a Signal Frequency Network with Beacon Hill, but a relay of Stockland Hill. Is this not an oxymoron?
The service area overlaps with Beacon Hill, according to the coverage maps on this site. So in order for it to work it must be an SFN. So, surely it must be a "relay" of Beacon Hill and line fed in order that it be in sync.
The mb21 Gallery shows there's a single horizontally-polarised log pointing in the direction of Stockland:

Kind regards
