Hello June Witham.
Your ROSS HD Satellite Kit is nothing to do with FREEVIEW, it is to do with FREESAT.
That is to say, standard TV aerials will not be any use to it.
The dish in the box is for aligning to the ASTRA Satellite. The same one that $KY broadcasts from.
FREESAT is a bit like FREEVIEW, in as much as, there is no subscription to pay. But there are several hundred TV and Radio stations on FREESAT.
I bought a ROSS kit for a friend, it took about 15 minutes to align the dish to the correct satellite (28 Degrees East) but we used a Sat-Finder to help us.
Hope this helps?
Kind regards James Watt

June Witham: Just to add to James Watt's posting, non dedicated to Freesat boxes can be a nightmare for finding specific channels, however if you enter 10818V - 22000 - 5/6 into the set it should receive BBC West service. ITV West country (South) is 10832H - 22000 - 5/6, but it may not respond and come up with unavailable or whatever, as I am not sure if its one of the free "but encrypted" channels, as some are some aren't!
Ignore the post code section in the menu, as its only purpose is to show the dish angles used in various countries, the box being sold world wide.

At TQ59NJ we cannot get some channels, and as of yesterday all BBC channels have massive interference and pixelation. For some months now we cannot get channels like RT (Russia Today) which disappeared off line after several days of similar interferance. We have never been able to pick up Film 4. We have checked all leads in the house, and rebooted and re-scanned several times on the TV (which has built-in freeview). We have an ariel on the roof,
What can we try please?

Laura: You are located at only 6 miles away from the transmitter and as such your problems could be caused by an excessively high level of signal rather than a weak one, as the symptoms experience are identical in both cases.
If you can borrow a set top aerial from anyone then try a test by carrying out a retune whilst its plugged in, "if" this results in a better quality of signal then an attenuator will be required to be placed in line with your TV's aerial socket.
If by the way you cannot borrow an aerial, then try a short length of wire (about 18" or so) pushed into the inner part of the aerial socket.

Laura: You are predicted to have excellent reception on all six muxes from the Beacon Hill transmitter with an aerial pointing NW and set for horizontal polarisation. If you are, by any chance, using Stockland Hill the COM muxes are predicted as offering variable reception. The Brixham relay only transmits the PSB muxes, so if your aerial is set for vertical polarisation and points North you will have a poor chance of reliable reception from either Beacon Hill or Stockland Hill on the COM muxes! Check that the correct frequencies have been stored for the transmitter that your aerial is pointing to. Remember that any prediction of good reception is subject to there being no local obstructions such as trees or tall buildings blocking the signal path.

Laura: Meant to also say that you might be picking up the Brixham relay (@ 1 mile away) which is a PSB only station which does transmit any commercial channels, if this is happening then you might have to manually tune in Beacon Hills channels to avoid this, as Brixham uses 43-50-46, whereas Beacon Hills channels are: 60-53-57-42-45-51.
Your signal checking screen should indicate the mux channels you have picked up, and if it is Brixham then you should delete them by selecting an auto-tune but immediately stopping it as soon as it starts, then go into the manual tune screen and enter these channels one at a time, scanning after each entry.

Laura: I had a look at your road on Google Streetview and can see that residents have difficulty with reception. I couldn't spot a single aerial on the Brixham relay; all are on Beacon or Stockland.
jb38, KMJ,Derby, this would appear to be one where the predictor isn't very helpful, other than to indicate the directions of the transmitters.
Laura's road is lined by bungalows and is on a slope. Beacon Hill is in the direction up the slope and at the end of the road (the highest part) are two houses.
I don't think that there's much point in trying with a set-top aerial or piece of wire.
I suggest that you confirm that the channels tuned are those of the transmitter to which the aerial faces. The information as to which UHF channel is tuned is usually given on the signal strength screen.
For each of the following, check the UHF channel tuned to:
BBC One --- BH=C60; SH=C26; B=C43
ITV1 --- BH=C53; SH=C23; B=C50
BBC One HD --- BH=C57; SH=C29; B=C46
ITV3 --- BH=C42; SH=C25
Pick TV --- BH=C45; SH=C22
Yesterday --- BH=C51; SH=C28
BH is Beacon Hill, SH is Stockland Hill and B is Brixham.
As an example, go to BBC One and bring up the signal strength screen. Note which UHF channel it is tuned to. If it is 26, then the signal is coming from Stockland Hill. If your aerial points to Beacon Hill, then that needs putting right.
- If your aerial is on Beacon Hill and you find that you are picking up some or all signals from Stockland, then a workaround is to run the automatic tuning scan with the aerial unplugged up to 30% (or up to UHF channel 33 if it gives them during its scan). If you do do this, then having done so, check that you haven't picked up the two (or three) multiplexes from Brixham (by carrying out the procedure outlined above).
- If your aerial is on Stockland Hill and you find that you are picking up some or all signals from Beacon (or Brixham), then run the automatic tuning scan with the aerial plugged in and then unplug when it gets to 30% (or when it gets to UHF channel 33 if it gives them during its scan).
