The symbol shows the location of the Black Hill (North Lanarkshire, Scotland) transmitter which serves 940,000 homes. The bright green areas shown where the signal from this transmitter is strong, dark green areas are poorer signals. Those parts shown in yellow may have interference on the same frequency from other masts.

Are there any planned engineering works or unexpected transmitter faults on the Black Hill (North Lanarkshire, Scotland) mast?

grainne: In order to answer any question on reception it is necessary to know one's location. As you are attempting to receive from more than one transmitter then it is also relevant as to where your aerial or aerials point, and if you have two whether they are combined and fed into your TV.

Depending on your location you might find that reception of Freeview is variable, such as because there is another transmitter on the same frequency which might cause you difficulty at some or all times.

Blurry pictures relate to analogue pictures and Freeview and Saorview are exclusively digital, and bad reception can result in blocky pictures and break-up of picture.

Blackhill is still showing as Weak Signal. Purchased a new TV and cannot get some of the HD channels, BBC News HD, Al jazeera HD, etc.

GMAN73: Could be a number of things. If the signal is very weak, then perhaps the HD Mux might have dropped out. However, it could also be due to your system - a weak connection etc means that the signal strength drops below what your tuner can pick up. And if your not getting any HD channels at all, make sute that your TV has an HD tuner in it - sadly, not all do, even now.

GMAN73: Apart from that mentioned by MikeB, another factor has to be taken into consideration, this being the fact that engineering work is presently taking place at Blackhill, a warning of "possible weak signal" having been posted on this weeks engineering notice board.

Its always advisable to check if anyone else in the area is also experiencing similar problems with reception, or if the problem is confined to your installation, such as by a deficiency in your aerial installation. If though on the other hand the problem "is" being experienced by others, then there is nothing you can really do about the situation except to wait until the TX power returns to normal.

Any idea when this Engineering works will finish. Digital Uk have had Blackhill listed as "possible weak signal" for god knows how long now.

Alexei Romanov:

If you look at theposting above yours, and assuming your are using the Black Hill transmitter, then the possible weak signals will cause just what you are experiencing. Do not perform a retune else you will lose programmes and have to do another retune once the work has been completed.

Re channel 32. Thank you for reply. The reason I asked is that I can receive all other Blackhill channels but on both of my HD tuners there is no suggestion of a signal being present on channel 32. As I used to install tv aerial I am totally bafelled why I cannot receive some glimmer of a signal. I know I live In Fintry (G630YQ) I am not supposed to receive Blackhill but as I have the a high gain aerial ( Wolsey HG 36 group B) + an Ikusi WB 32db gain amp and receiving channels, 35HD,40HD,41SD,43SD,44SD,46SD,47SD & 51SD but no 32HD. I have a Panasonic TV (No HD tuner) which idicates a full signal on 32 but alas on tv with HD tuner and my Humax HD PVR no suggetion of signal. I note that that channel 32 has a higher transmission power than channel 35 So why do I not receive it? It only 3.7db down on full power! Any suggestions?
Thank you
Maurice
