The symbol shows the location of the Black Hill (North Lanarkshire, Scotland) transmitter which serves 940,000 homes. The bright green areas shown where the signal from this transmitter is strong, dark green areas are poorer signals. Those parts shown in yellow may have interference on the same frequency from other masts.

Are there any planned engineering works or unexpected transmitter faults on the Black Hill (North Lanarkshire, Scotland) mast?

d kaye: How is the feed from the aerial split to the different rooms?

If it is a power splitter (distribution amplifier) then this could point to it being at fault.

Is South Glasgow likely to be affected by the 4G signal?

HOWIE: I should imagine that there will be some viewers within the South Glasgow area that will be affected.

Have been receiving signal from Blackhill for years. Suddenly morning 4 July signal has become unwatchable on all channels. Signal strength normally ran about 80/90 with only occasional 1/2 bit errors. Now signal strength jumps between 0 and 80 with bit errors between 0 and 2000. There seems to be a rhythmical pattern to this 0/80 signal strength. Have tried retune and it takes a while but still picks up Blackhill. Anyone any further ideas, wondering about interference from any newly switched on transmitters close to Howood/Lochwinnoch(possibly 4G)?

If you are using an amplifier try bypassing it.

Thanks Dave
Yes it is on all 6 channels(40,41,43,44,46,47) and yes it has a masthead amplifier, so not easy to bypass. Have tried another aerial, in the loft, which has built in amp (DAT45 with MRD) and get same result but lower signal strength 0/70 errors 0/2000. System is fed from a Labgear HDU681 and has worked fine for several years. This extreme range of signal strengths only started yesterday morning and is still present. Have tried retune to Darvel which used to be available to me at lower signal strength, now totally unable to receive. Seems like I get good signal for about 2 seconds then something blanks it for 4-6 seconds on a regular/harmonic basis.

Ian Young: But the question is just how long will your good fortune last at this time of the year when atmospheric conditions play such a large role in reception, and especially so when your signal is only being received through diffraction due to the line of sight signal path from the Blackhill transmitter being blocked from roughly 2 - 9 miles prior to your location.

But though, and although its neither here nor there if your reception has returned to normal, but when reading the run down on equipment used I was wondering what had influenced your decision to use the Labgear HDU681 for long distance reception when its such a relatively low powered device only offering a 8dB gain on its UHF outputs? albeit I do appreciate that you are possibly using its other multi-band capabilities.
