Lawrence: Each additional doubling of the number of points reduces the level at each output of the splitter by about 4 dB. A 6-way would be about 10 dB of insertion loss, while a 4-way is about 8 dB.
In comparison, Belmont signal levels will ultimately be increased by anywhere from 7 to 14 dB. Right now ArqA and ArqB are still on reduced power levels, only 3 dB more than pre-switchover power levels - this restriction ends in November after Tacolneston switches over.

Mike Dimmick: Don't you really think that db levels and insertion losses etc, especially when elements of the theoretical coupled to variables are involved, nothing being exact, are more appropriate to "some" on MB21 rather than a site where people of basically a non technical nature are seeking assistance without wishing to be baffled by science.
(My self also being a member of aforementioned site albeit wearing a different hat, that is as well as generally being in the background)

jb38: If I post about multiples or divisions of power, people think they're being cheated out of something.
The key point is: at least 7 dB of increase post-DSO, about 2 dB greater loss with a 6-way splitter compared to a 4-way, net increase of at least 5 dB, should still result in better margin than before switchover.

Mike Dimmick: Yes, but these loses you refer to have elements of "in theory" attached to them, as it all depends on whether or not every additional point installed is actually loaded up by something being plugged into them, and if something should be then what the device actually represents impedance loading wise on the circuit, considering that is we are not dealing with professional spec equipment and so nothing can be taken as exact, as indeed nothing can when dealing with anything connected with RF signals, as assumptions are frequently the order of the day!
Or in other words, in practice, Lawrence would not notice one iota of a difference in the signal received if done via a four or six way splitter, unless maybe rather than looking at it on the TV he was observing the level on a good db meter where small variations of signal level would be noticed.

I am in Spilsby on the Lincolnshire Wolds but cannot get any reception on ITV4 and the other channels which I believe are on the same MUX as ITV4 post DSO, however I have just confirmed with a neighbour who has the same aerial and booster set up as ourselves that they receive these channels ok. I have read that there are still 2 MUX which are still only on low power from Belmont (4KW), but I dont understand why my next door neighbour receives these ok? Is there a problem with our set up, please help as this is doing my head in!!!! Well at least we got the Freeview HD channels now!!!

Steve Harper: Yes, the two Arqiva multiplexes are on low power until 23 November. You didn't provide a full postcode so it hard to comment, but if your reception is just slightly poorer than your neighbours, these two multiplexes will be "over the digital cliff" and unavailable to you until the end of November.

In HU7 with an amplifier COM5 is fine but COM6 does nothing. How do I use the amplifier's gain control to counteract the strong muxes?

Briantist:-sorted my problems out but still got one multiplex missing,will have till november!,by the way just come back from north norfolk,been on holiday there,very surprised to find virtually everyone on the wash coast have their aerials pointing across towards belmont & not tacolneston.
