That's brilliant. Thanks for that information Briantist. I thought a group A aerial would be the one to go for. Is there anyway of telling on an existing aerial what gain it is and whether a particular group or wideband?
Touch wood, the signal has been consistent now for the last week so lets hope it continues!

Chris: There will be a "red band" on a group A aerial, but the only way to find out the actual gain is to check in the technical specifications.

That's good to know. Thanks. I'll keep a lookout for one. Cross fingers, we have had an uninterupted signal now for quite a while although as I write this, it is now SNOWING again so it will be interesting to see if the signal gets interupted again. There is a signal at the moment.
