Mr Ellis: It is planned to transmit the Kent local multiplex from Swingate in order to serve Dover, also the BBC national multiplex is on the list of improvements for Dover. I am not able to give a precise date for this, but the current phase of improvements to reception on the BBC national multiplex should be completed by the end of 2015.

Is there any possible chance that "Local" radio stations can be transmitted on the "Local" DAB Transmitter in Dover / Folkestone ?. Stations like Dover Community Radio and Academy FM Folkestone could really benefit from this new technology. Especially if you're saying that Dover / Deal / Folkestone coverage of DAB will be improved. Thanks so much.

Martin Turner: It would be up to the stations to pay the multiplex operator on a commercial basis to transmit their stations. Being on a multiplex that covers a whole county is probably unaffordable for most community stations, however Ofcom have been trialling small scale DAB which covers a smaller area at much lower cost and is planning to offer this in the future to stations which are not yet on DAB, subject to government approval (see article linked below for more details).
