Are there any planned engineering works or unexpected transmitter faults on the Chillerton Down (Isle Of Wight, England) mast?
UK Free TV shows the coverage area for a radio transmitter as a coloured overlay (orange for FM, other colours for DAB) on the grey map. We have computed the coverage by combining the terrain with the official radiation pattern. i'm thinking of getting a combined FM / DAB aerial and pointing at this transmitter as i already use the rowbridge for TV
fitted in the loft and in East Wittering - looks like the coverage is OK
any views on if this type of aerial will work in the loft

Wayne: Id be surprised that You would not, As You can almost see the Island and no doubt at night can see the lights from both the tall masts bearing in mind Chillerton is 1 higher and 2 closer to You. I am useing a 12 element Log P TV aerial with two 3 foor wiskers attached to the front of it, thus forming a 12 element LopP for TV and a dipole for FM, and untuned though that may be it can hear many stsions on FM & DRAB, its behind the neighbours roof s far as Chilerton ids concerned, My Advise is gerry rig the aerial and see, if it does not work You ll know it does not work there, then try someplace else but a simple dipole should be enough : which is magic figgure : 468 / frequency which is 200Mhz Ish will give length in feet thus a DRAB dipole is 2.34 feet or total 28" long try that on feed in the middle with coax ! thats 14" each side of the coax vertical of course.
