MikeB: I'm watching the Richer Sounds TV now. all stations perfect, no pixilation audio fine. This is driving me up the wall. Maybe I could use this tv as the tuner and power the big screen panasonic from it? The problem Is with the Panasonic but only on half the stations. first half on scanning are perfect. second half of the scan are unwatchable. The Richer sounds TV is problem free. A great buy. I would trade in the Panasonic for a larger screen Richer Sounds model any day.

MikeB: The signal strength on the unwatchable channels is 10. I attached the 12db attenuator and brought this down to 6 no change. The signal strength is steady in both instances. However the quality varies wildly from 0-10. It has got me thinking that whatever alterations have been made at sandy heath are incompatible with the Panasonic tuner. Given that the richer sounds tv is untroubled

MikeB: The Richer Sounds is "plumbed in" so to speak but I could try a kettle lead from one of my guitar amps. For now Its the Panasonic for BBC ch4 and tiny tv for dave and the rest. It's a poser alright! I will try pairing back the screen cable on my aerial too.

MikeB: Tried switching power leads, no change. However I have noticed that Dave has improved in terms of quality! whoop. Dave+1 & Yesterday are worse than ever? I think I may wait a week or so to see if things resolve themselves. I recon work taking place at Sandy Heath is behind all this, or maybe atmospheric conditions?

MikeB: The fact that this signal quality issue is so distinct and so pronounced makes me wonder.

MikeB: Yes, I am using the same aerial input on both TVs, just unplugging from one to the other. That is what's so baffling. Richer sounds TV is no problem. When I tune to the problem channels on the Panasonic, it can start ok but soon, within 30 seconds or so, the signal quality starts to yoyo. The same tv is solid as a rock on BBC, CH 4&5. There is something about certain stations which confuses only the Panansonic.

jb38: Thank you for this detailed reply. I did restore the set to "shipping condition" and no change after re scan. The baffling thing is the good channels are very good indeed! Maximum signal strength and signal quality. the bad channels are all alike too, maximum signal strength, 0-2 signal quality. This varies a lot over the course of the day but at no time are the bad channels unaffected for more than a few minutes. I tried attenuating the signal strength, no change there either. It's a pain in the arse as this big Panasonic took a lot of heave hoing to get here. My guess is that I've been ""updated"" into obsolescence. It all began with those fancy adverts for Freeview Play. I can remember thinking. "Oh dear, why do they have to tinker with something that has seemed almost too good to be true for 5 years. This is going to cost me!"

jb38: The +1 stations are now at rock bottom on the quality scale. Dave is but a distant memory and Yesterday is just that! My viewing pleasure has been reduced by about half since the beginning of November. Looks like Freeview has left me behind. So hello Freesat? I have a dish on the outside of my flat, still wired up. At least satellite signals are good just about everywhere. I wonder if this isn't all a plot to drive us into the clutches of Murdoch? I do know he hates the idea of free tv.

Paul: Of course I could just get rid of the tv and start reading again. This may be the best thing that's happened to me in years. Interesting to note that my mobile signal has suffered too, virgin mobile, they use the Orange masts. This part of Bucks/Beds has always been a poor signal area MK17 8. Things have simply got worse over the years.
