Briantist: In fact, I'll be honest with you. the only channels I can now watch are BBCs, Ch4s, (apart from 4music) and ITVs. So I've pretty much lost all 'freeview' channels. Maybe they've "Updated" my TV into obsolescence? Whatever changes have been made have robbed me of freeview.

Briantist: Thanks Brian. Looks like an attenuator may fix my problem. The signal quality on all the problem channels does vary wildly, from 10 to 0 , up and down all the time, never stable for more than a few seconds. Would this be my equipment trying to deal with signal overload?

MikeB: The signal strength is good all round, never varies. However the signal quality varies wildly on half the stations including Dave, Yesterday, 4Music. The signal strength never varies and is on ten with these worst affected Stations. So I bought an attenuator, thinking maybe I was getting signal overload. Even with the signal dampened down the quality still fluctuates an insane amount. Whatever changes have been made over the past few weeks have nobbled my freeview! Why did they have to screw things up? If it ain't broke don't fix it I say

The attenuator cost me 6.99 at Maplins. This has brought the signal down to about 8 on my unwatchable freeview stations. It has had no effect on signal quality though. Signal quality round here is on the blink, literally.

Has there been a major "update" to Freeview stations broadcast from Sandy Heath? Maybe this has left my TV obsolete? I have tried wiping channels and rescanning. the same results. Great signal strength, poor, wildly fluctuating signal quality.

Paul: Interesting. I may have isolated the problem. The signal quality varies on my Panasonic TH-42PZ80BA! but is OK on a smaller tv I used to use which is six years old. Is there a way i can tweak the Panasonic to improve quality of reception? downloading updates etc?

It's either "goodbye to Dave" or I go back to my tiny TV!

Paul: Maybe the Panasonic is on its way out? but why only some stations? Half excellent, half useless.

MikeB: Hi Mike, thanks for your constructive suggestions. I bought a 6db attenuator, maybe a 12db is the answer. The guy in the store said I could take back the 6db and swap it for a 12 if it didn't do the job. The BBC channels are all on 8 and yet the signal quality there is fine. Half the channels, the quality is 10, the other half, quality is 2. Very odd

MikeB: Well, I don't want to be a pain in the neck but no change. I have fitted a 12db attenuator, brought signal down to 60- 75% and the signal quality is still all over the place. Only with the panasonic. everything fine on the tiny TV. when I do the Auto Scan half the channels are quality 10, half quality 2. Should have stuck to the tiny TV, its a richer sounds and I have never had any problems with it. Maybe the only way for me to enjoy the panasonic is through free sat? This has only become a problem since the start of this month. Do you know if they are working on the Sandy Heath feed?
