Below are all of Andy's postings, with the most recent are at the bottom of the page.I am unable to get BBC on C49 from the Mendip transmitter. I am near Langport. All other channels working fine (and all including BBC were fine before 27 March) Neither Humax PVR nor Samsung TV can pick up the signals (Humax says signal very poor on C49). Have tried full resets, auto retunes and manual retunes of both.
Spoke to AT800.TV who are responsible for making sure everyone can get TV after the switchover to accomodate 4G mobile and they refused to help because it is apparently nothing to do with them (errr... the signal was moved to accommodate 4G - how is it not anything to do with them??). They gave me the number of the Radio and TV investigation service.
I have been trying all day (several hours in a queue) to get through to the radio and television investigation service which (according to its hold message) deals with problems with BBC signals. Their Number is 03709016789. Has anyone been able to use this number with any success? Were they able to help when you got through, or even acknowledge that there is a problem? The fact I have been queueing so long suggests there may be a lot of people with problems!

jb38: I dont have the exact details in front of me but from memory:
The first bar (strength) was at about 10%
The second bar (quality) was at 10% or 0% (it changed from time to time).
On the other channels the results were much higher (quality around 100% from what I recall).

Thanks jb38. I'll head up into the loft at the weekend- was planning to move the aerial slightly to the left away from Wenvoe to see if that makes a difference anyway. We have a single aerial which is in the loft (I know not as good as being on the roof but it worked before with no problems!). It goes through a powered hub which splits the signal into several outputs. Would this already have some sort of booster in it?

Thanks. I'll make sure I have a willing volunteer watching the screen while I move the aerial!

Mendip, Bristol and relay transmitters - retune require on 27thThursday 4 April 2013 9:47AM

jb38: may try taking the humax and a small portable into the loft. One question: when I am moving the aerial, where is it best to stand/ crouch? I assume directly behind the aerial is the best place (so as not to block the signal)?

Right. I have just spent about 4 hours in the loft and running up and down the stairs and I now have all channels working and correct!
When we moved into the house, there was a hub installed but no aerial and none of the aerial cables were attached to the hub. So I bought an aerial and fitted it in the loft, and then connected cables to the hub until the tv worked. Job done. Or so I thought...
For some reason (which could be linked to the retune - I think the signal is slightly weaker) on the 27th March we lost BBC.
So today I took a freeview box into the loft and connected it directly to the aerial. Signal on C49: 90% strength and very good quality. I rewired all the plugs but still downstairs the signal was weak with no quality. So my conclusion was that there was a problem with the cable between the loft and the lounge.
I then realised that in the lounge there are two outlets, one for each type of aerial plug, and that each plug had a separate cable. I rewired the plug on the tv so that it could use the alternative cable and guess what, BBC (and all other channels) is back!
So I have found a solution. I did wonder whether the problem was that I had NEVER actually connected the correct cable and that the weak signal (which became weaker on the retune) was being picked up from the unconnected cable.... but when I tried connected another cable in the loft, bizarrely that output had BBC but NOT some of the other channels. I've decided to leave well alone. We have all channels and I am now happy!
Thanks for all your help!

Since the retune we have had no BBC coverage. We are near Langport. Anyone else near here having problems too?
