UK TV Transmitters
Have you made any progress with the second application ? As I said above, even Ofcom can`t see any reason why any of the patterns are witheld ! (S62LL)

Brian, are you up for doing anything to get the other radiation patterns off the BBC ?
I spoke to Ofcom again this morning and theyt repeated that they cannot think of any reason why the BBC should not release some of the transmitter patterns.
If, understandably, you`ve lost enthusiasm for it, I could have a go, but could you get in touch with me and tell me how to go about it ?

Hello Brian.
We`ve had a customer buying a Yagi18K for Caradon Hill because you say Caradon is a K group, but since the switchover Caradon is an A group ! As it happens the 18K worked fine anyway (he reported it outperformed his existing Tri Boom) but for other people in poorer signal areas an A group would work that much better.

"Engineers should not charge much at all for rotating the aerial from horizontal to vertical polarisation if roof or chimney mounted."
Not necessarily, particularly if the aerial is mounted on the roof.
Think about it, the installer still has to get in his van, drive over to you, get out all his ladders, get on the roof, do the job, get all his ladders back down on his van again, then drive home.
There are a few interesting things to consider about aerial installs and there pricing here :
Prices etc
I`ve no axe to grind with this one, we don`t really do aerial installs anymore, and definitely not out of the Sheffield area !

Hello Brian.
I noticed there`s no radiation pattern for Ridge Hill, have you managed to make any progress with the second FOI request ?
Did I read somewhere that you say Ridge Hill is a wideband transmitter ? Post DSO it is of course an A group.

Brian, my Ofcom sheet says CH30 and 31 !
But in any case I didn`t think any of those channels are certain ?

Are you saying the`ve released more transmitter patterns but not all of them ? Even if one accepts their arguments why they haven`t (and I don`t, I think it`s a very weak argument compared with freedom of information), I can`t see any reason at all why they can`t release all the relay patterns. After all we`re only talking about TXs up to 50/100W, and most of those on the coast aren`t aimed out to sea anyway. Then there`s any TXs in the north or west of the UK (esp Scotland), how can their transmissions affect any other country ?
On the subject of Oxford, that`s a C/D transmitter, C/D transmissions, being higher frequency, don`t travel as far as A group transmissions. I think any argument about possible co-channel issues should bear that in mind.

Brian, I think you did really well getting this info, and I think Mike`s done a really good job on the radiation pattern graphics.
It`s such a pity that the main TXs aren`t included. However I was talking to a contact at Ofcom just the other day and he couldn`t really think of any reason for their censorship. He speculated that the reason for their omission could have been that the international interference avoidance agreements may not have been made then, but they have been now. Thus they may now be available if you asked again. Do you think there`s any chance you could do anything on it ?
