apart from the price issue might i suggest that customers check that their installer still accepts cheques as a form of payment before having the aerial fitted. the cheque card guarantee scheme ended last year so for most small firms to have to gamble on whether the cheque will clear is totally unfair and a threat to their business. there are more rogue customers than installers!

the main thing the public need to understand when getting quotes for aerial work is that a " starting from" price, often given by the big national aerial firms to get their foot in the door can often double or treble. a local installer will normally be able to give you a more accurate and realistic price

Every aerial install is different but most installers should be able to give a customer a fairly accurate price guide on the phone. The national firms are reluctant to do this and will only ever give a starting from price which is normally half the going rate. Remember starting from 50 pounds can mean 250 pounds or more!

Always best to stick to the small local firms in my opinion. The national companies have to charge more to cover their overheads plus they are always vat registered which means they will be 20% more expensive anyway

i think anyone who reads back through this thread would now have a good idea of prices in their area. of course your mate down the road can do it cheaper because he hasnt got the overheads of running a business. i have been installing for over 20 years but what i now find is frustrating with all these rogue trader type tv programmes is that some customers will not listen when you try and give advice to help them, they assume you are not being honest. i had a guy last week who didnt want to know about a log periodic type aerial which would have given him great reception, he wanted a 48 element high gain one which someone else had told him he needed.we did it his way but had a few channels missing due to signal overload which we managed to sort out in the end but sometimes you just cant win
