Graham Ellery: Hi Briantist. 15th is here and now another batch of channels have gone.So no sign of any improvement. See my/your comments 13th June. Perfect freeview on a wide range of channels pre-switch now down to a very limited range. So the benefit of the switchover is that we get less and less channels.

So I had the right aerial but someone has subsequently decided that more convenient not to service these.
Why could none of the people I have spoken to , online chatted with , emailed and yourself Brianist not have been transparent.

Restrictions on SDN, Arqiva A and Arqiva B multiplexes
There are no restrictions on the "commercial multiplexes" on the Craigkelly transmitter - however they will broadcast at 10kW, half of the power of the public service multiplexes and may be unavailable to those on the fringes of the reception area.
So not only are they not covering a band aerials they are not broadcasting at sufficient power to cover the area. The good news is the owners of 2 of these multiplexes plan to launch a new channel but probably not for my area?.

Picked this up on the net. I had perfect freeview preswitch but 1st June and now 15th June a number of channels dropped of. This may be reason looks like Craigkelly users getting a duff deal.

Ordered my new aerial then spotted this.
Looks like the transmitter operators/some multiplex operators are downgrading power and hence service. Only guessing but could it be to use more of the transmitter and bandwidth for lucrative phone , £D telly and pay for view channels???. Otherwise why would they not boost the power to levels where everyone gets their multiplexes.

Forgot to mention no HD channel either. Am I glad I bought HD ready kit and built in freeview????. DigitalUK now think I may have been getting signal from Blackhill previously.

Hi Aaron.
I have tried everything. Good freeview pre switchover. Now lost 3 multiplexes and no sign of promised HD. Looks like switchover was designed to benefit big business (Aqiva - who interestingly will be doing the smart meters for our utilities).
Cannot get onto DigitalUK helpsite for missing channel help as it seems to be overloaded.
Will keep trying but suspect next recommendations will be:
"Is your car parked too close to the house"
"Have you just put washing on your line , if so please move"
" Does your house number have a 3 in it".

Basically Anstruther has lost out due to the digital switch over. Technical requirements by the transmitter operators mean that even if you had good digital before the switch you may have lost many channels now. I had good reception now most of 3 multiplexes have gone. There may be a glimmer of hope in that we might have been receiving signal from Black Hill transmitter previously and that is mid way through its switch (22nd june is stage 2).If you study the yellow/green sectors on maps you can see we receive better from Black Hill due to it beaming up the middle of the Forth Estuary. As far as Craigkelly is concerned the DigitalUK people are suggesting wideband aerial on roofs but if I understand correctly no guarantees.

Sorry Brianist but this is poor. Suddenly we are not getting some existing freeview channels we got before with indoor aerial. Sounds more like lack of investment and reliable info. throughout this switchover. Roof aerial never mention 5 years ago when we installed ours. Believe our Craigkelly transmitter is 55 years old. Scotland is a windy country , roof aerials are a poor idea- other than if you are installer. More should be invested to sort this issue. Disgruntled Cellardyke
