Hello. About 6 weeks/2 months ago we suddenly lost all BBC HD and ITV HD reception. Well, occasional flickers on BBC HD. ITV 4 was awful and breaking up and unwatchable too. I have a LG new LED TV with built in Freeview. I followed the Freeview guidelines and unplugged the aeriel, retuned the tv, unplugged the tv for a minute, replugged it in and attached the aeriel. Ta Da!!! I've now lost all channels from 50 - 59. I don't know about those above, as I never watch them anyway. The importnat ones are BBC HD and ITV HD. Gone. I live in Brixton, London . Please can anyone help me get back my channels.

Really appreciate your reply, thanks. I've tried your suggestion, but without success. I can't understand why before, I was receiving it all, no problem at all. Did it coincide with the BBC HD switchover? Or did it coincide with the visit from the Virgin man who came to fix the internet that wasn't working. Is that possible? They were both around the same time...

The more I'm reading into why my TV suddenly lost pretty near perfect BBC 1 HD/ITV 1 HD and is impossible to watch ITV 4 (SD)... the more I'm convinced there's a gremlin in my house. I have a LG 32LV355T, which the spec says has built in Freeview HD and can receive from DVB-T2 (the switchover to which I understand is the reason for people getting grumpy with the BBC). So what's the problem? I live 3 miles from Crystal Palace, virtually in the shadow of the tower, dammit!! Cables?? Virgin?? Cat?? What else is there to blame??

Right thanks Dave. Possibility of too much signal? I've checked the signal strength for the channel I have problems with - ITV 4 - and it varies between 30 - 42%. The quality varies between 0 and 100%. I can't get any channel between 49 and 60 after a full factory reset.I've just bought a variable attenuator as per your thread and advice. Fingers crossed!!

Hi - I have now totally lost all channels!! Hahaha. I have NO SIGNAL on all of my channels. I recently bought a variable attenuator to boost the signals or weaken them as necessary and now I have nothing at all. What on earth??

Hi Dave - I got the attenuator and fitted it and for two days - perfect. I've got ITV 4 back. Then I lost all the channels totally. I think there's a bigger problem here...

Hi there - apologies if I haven't been clear on the aerial. We're in a purpose built flat - we're on the ground floor and we used to have sky, but that was unplugged by the Virgin engineer who came round a few weeks ago to link up the broadband. We have a communal aerial which seems to run through the virgin media box. Two days without tv - it's quite nice in some ways to unplug for a while, but I'd like to get to the bottom of the mystery. Could it be the aerial cable? I might buy another of those just in case the cable is broken inside?

Hi jb38 - I don't have a box with that name on it. It's a virgin media super hub VMDG480 NETGEAR. As such, it is used for internet only I think. The Freeview comes from a receiver inside the LG tv and the TV aerial plugs through a male to male aerial cable into the wall female aerial socket - though it's a bit loose. The Virgin box It is the type that has 3 lights on it when there it is giving out wireless to the flat. The cable from this box connects into a techmatix box which then has 1 cable exiting that into the wall. Where that goes I don't know.

Hang on hang on. I think I might have fixed it...

All HD channels are back. ITV 4 appears to be working smoothly... I'm not counting my chickens, but so far we're looking good.

The problem? I had the aerial plugged into the FM aerial. The TV aerial was too loose and they were side by side and I wrongly assumed they did the same thing. I've tightened up the female parts of the aerial and with a better grip comes a happy man.

Who knew??

Thanks so much for your patience and help.

I'm a numpty.
