Different Ian here
I have been busy, so have not put any posts on here for a while. I seem to be joining the back of an arguement here.
To the other Ian, who I gather is the only honest not working for profit sparky in the entire country.
YOU SOUND LIKE A COMPLETE
This web site has been built and maintained by one man who works god knows how many hours every night helping the general public for free.
Every aerial and satellite engineer who makes a comment on here gives up their own time, handing out free advice to many thousands of people in their spare time, all answering every question without charging or asking for anything in return.
And you come onto an aerial and satellite website probably visited by every engineer in the country and say that we all know nothing and work very short hours ripping customers off.
As I said you sound like a dick
We too have to sit exams and health and safety checks, we have to pay thousands for our own tools vans and our own education along with having to replace nearly all our equipment every couple of years because of the limited safe use of harnesses and ropes plus getting the ladders safety checked by an independent company, all at our own expense.
We may not have to sit the same exams and tests as the ones in your trade but we do have to prove to many government companies that we can do our job and work in a safe environment for us, the customer and their property.
I would suggest if you actually want some free help and advice please ask, and I am sure there are many people on here that will give up their time again for free to help you.
If not stop slagging off our trade and consider how you might actually need us in the future.
All the best Ian

Down here in Oxford,
Kb canary islands sounds good budd
Has not stopped raining for 3 days on and off here.
Wondering if we down here should have a holiday when the switch over comes to avoid the tun of phone calls to fit attenuators for free under warranty
Now that the switch over has happened in a lot of your areas have you seen a drop or increase in work ??

Hey George
The one you should watch for as a rogue aerial installer group is aerial force
www.aerialforce.co.uk
Slough aerials
Wokingham aerials
Didcot aerials
Witney aerials
Reading aerials
Maidenhead aerials
Ascot aerials
Bracknell aerials
Oxford aerial solutions
And many many many more
They are all the same company or any company that does not exist.
They have been on rogue traders 5 times and counting all under different names and know one seems to be able to stop them
The actuall price for an aerial is over £200 plus for a basic aerial and you will never get a recall if needed because as far as they are concerned the engineer does not work for them.
If you look around spot how many companies by you have the same website as these companies.
All around Oxfordshire they have even changed their numbers, don't know how many times a year they do this.
I know for a fact they are spending £150,000 a year plus on advertising so you can well imagine what the income would be on that.
When on rogue traders sites it states that the 2 brothers who own the so called company both own their own helicopters.
This is how these people can advertise aerials for £49-£69 for an aerial fit because they don't fit them for this.
They go up and down the country saying aerials installed for £69

In fact I was in pc world recently trying to get my laptop fixed under warranty without it being sent away for 2 weeks (no chance, don't these people understand you buy a computer for the purpose of work so to be without it for 2 weeks, is impossible)
Anyways when I was in there there was a DVD type case on the counter allowing you to buy a tv aerial installation for X amount. Was a damn good price I thought until I started reading the back.
No bracketry included
No roof work included
No cabling included
And so on
All I could do was laugh, but there is know way of legally shoving your own business card in the boxes
SHAME

Hey Julie,
Have you got a south facing garden or somewhere you could hide a freesat dish, film 4 available on that for free and it would stop you having an aerial on the roof, strange some people complain about an aerial and not a dish and visa versa
Might be worth looking into

Hi Cathy
1st of all have you tried moving the tv from upstairs to downstairs and doing a re-tune. If all channels appear then you know it's a problem with upstairs signal.
Then figure out how the signal goes upstairs. If there is a booster take it out you will not need it in ox3
I work round headington all the time and a lot of people are having problems just because they are not retuning properly or because the signal power has increased
I hope all goes well

Hey mazbar
That could even be sky themselves, chatting to one of their engineers a few weeks back. I am actually surprissed they make the billions they do.
This guy actually had his step ladders removed from his van because he says they are not allowed to work off them as they are unsafe.
He was telling me that they can only use the triples that they are provided with, so this makes it almost impossible to do a ground floor flat (which sky no longer seem to touch flats either) but also a low cable run.
He was telling me also because of the internal damage they have been warned to avoid tacking internally to stop the skirting splitting or wall paper tearing.
I don't know about you buddy but I have never had a problem fixing cables to skirtings or using a step ladder
THE WORLD HAS GONE SAFETY CRAZY

Pamela the break if there is one will be in the loft or somewhere that there is a tv link amp or splitter box,
Be carefull because if water is getting into the amp this will also be plugged into the mains
Find the amplifier splitter box take off the connector and bang the bit of cable against a bit of newspaper if the paper gets wet you will know if there is water in it
If not some loft amplifiers allow you to turn up the gain with a little know on it, if it has one of these turn it up a little bit and retune the tv.
Hope all goes well
