Seriously, backache would be regarded as off topic, don't know why, headaches seem to be a regular feature. I suppose we may be allowed a small amount of frivolity.

I would think that these things were all worked out prior to switchover even starting. I suppose its possible to monitor the signal power, but I doubt if Ofcom have any facilities for adjusting power output from any transmitters remotely, just the 'power' to require the operator to do this.

With regard to my reply to your post of 24 April and your update to Mark Fletcher on 1 May, I can see that, at 69, your backache problems would be nothing to do with 'bedroom antics or the strength of elastic'. I'm 68 this year and I KNOW haha.

If you do not have a TV set with built in freeview, you will need a box to fit between your aerial and TV set.
When shopping, make sure you get a box which operates in 8K mode, as a lot of people are now 'unloading' their old 2K mode gear which is now useless.
Whatever you decide to buy, please DO have a look on Google etc. and see if their are any known problems with the equipment as this will save you endless trips to various outlets for replacements or refunds.
I use Phillips/Pace 220/05 without any problems. These, if still available, are a nice cheap one and work very well.
I actually use 2 of them in different rooms and I got them from eBay for less than £15 each.

Jubaer, Do you have an old hifi tuner aerial laying about anywhere, the type that has a coil of wire wrapped round a plastic former. If so, fix a coax plug to the two tails coming off it and try this in your TV. I use two of them in different rooms and they work really well when you consider that I live in a bungalow and the adjacent buildings between me and Emley Moor are all two storey houses.

David Parker, At the moment my home is a building site, everything but absolute necessities is in storage and nothing but the kettle, the fridge, the microwave and my computer plus a chair in the place. I will have to look into Bilsdale at some later date, approx 5 weeks to completion they say. Best regards to all contributors.

I only wish you had found this site a lot sooner as there have been numerous posts about 'too much is worse than too little'.
Digital transmissions are very different to analogue and anyone using an amplifier should disconnect it from the downline if they have problems, as too much signal overloads the tuners and this gives the impression that there is not enough signal.
There have been many grumbles about 'going digital', but when you consider that analogue was 850 kilowatts for each TV channel and now a single digital multiplex can carry upwards of 10 TV channels on 174 kilowatts, giving the same coverage, it has to be more efficient.
I am very happy you now have your channels without problems.

Com 6 from Emley Moor is still reported as being on 87Kw (see rating at top of page) rather than the 'normal' 174Kw. This is the one which carries Film4, Yesterday and another 28 stations, including approx 10 radio stations. This mux was on lower power to avoid interaction with Bilsdale, but I understood it would be uprated after their switchover. I do not know why it has not been as yet.

I am pleased to hear that it has now been upgraded to the same power as the others. I am, at the moment, sorting out my gear between redecorating, as everything in this bungalow has changed. I am running the downline from my rooftop aerial through the loft to feed three rooms, easy peasy, no floors to lift. Finally my TV's can be wall mounted.

As it states further up this page ..ArqB subject to reactive power reduction of 87kW if required 'until further notice'...
I may be wrong, but I think it has something to do with interaction with another transmitter, which can only go onto its own channel when yet another one is changed to Digital.
