Below are all of Rob Mitchell's postings, with the most recent are at the bottom of the page. Not sure but i might have found the problem but still not sure, i split the Ariel in the loft and then had to split again down stairs from the main point on the wall under the floor to a splitter to 2 points.
plugged the Sony into the main point before it goes below the floor and things seem ok, there must be something going on under the floor, however we have had solid wooden flooring fitted now and i cannot get to the splitter to check. Think i will try running a cable from the main point above ground to the Sony in its normal position. Also the cable under the ground is single screen so if interference is present then that might not help.
plugged daughters tv in to Sony point and the signal strength said 0 on 53 but strangely the quality was 99 however it would not pick anything up on 60. Also i noticed it said modulation unknown, when plugged in the main point it picks this up and gives 100% quality with 64% strength and shows the region under modulation.
hope this is right will try cable above ground even though that will look really bad running along the skirting board.

Made a fly lead but still seems to happening when Sony tv is back in its normal place. Move to other end of room on the same fly lead and that seems ok. moved Sony to about 10 inches from the wall from and put the original Ariel back in that, still blipping but maybe not as much. Now i am really confused if its something on the other side of the wall or not.

C60 channels improved, however not perfect still the odd glitch at the moment, back to my original set up, just moved the tv a little for adjoining wall, do not really know if it is that which has made the improvement or not. To get rid of the glitches can i get some kind of filter?
still cannot work out why daughters tv seemed to suggest there was no signal on the Sony Ariel point. Also the strength of the signal is high on all channels on the Sony, but suggested 64% and i could not even get the channel 60 channels at all.
still confused.

Hi All,
Could this be the problem, strange how there are now works on the mast. Does anyone know the detail of the works, are they relating to channel 60 issues?

Well Dear all,
The confusion continues, as you know only been suffering with intermittent blocky pictures and sound glitches on channel 60 programmes from Oxford, all other channels fine on Sony KDL375500. Latest is that i borrowed a freeview hd set top box which is at low level on top of my dvd recorder / hard drive and i now do not have any interference at all.
However I have looked at the signal and quality meter on the alba set top that i have borrowed and it is saying for most channels 100% signal 7 to 10% quality, however the picture seems fine to me, thinking back i also got the same kind of readings with my daughters tv when i plugged it in to the same Ariel socket, however the picture looked fine to me on that too.
The Sony on the same socket says 100% signal but does not show the quality.
Have dropped a note in to neighbor to ask about a baby monitor or simular near the wall.
So my question is could this be the Sony TV on the blink? or is this just because the set top box is in a different location lower and further from the wall than the back of the sony tv? I suppose it could be both........dam this is doing my noggin in, dont really want the expense of a set top box and another remote either.
Again thanks for all the advice

Hi Pikpilot,
Sorry if i am honest i did not really understand how to do this, i have a coax plug into the wall socket, a run of cable under the floor, a two way splitter which feeds one lead to the TV and one lead to a spare socket at the other end of the room. Could you explain this test is laymans terms for me, i have no experiance of this kind of thing.
Also if anyone has any advice on why i should be getting a high signal strengh and low quality (highest is %31) on the alba set top box i have borrowed would be great, I have already tried a varible attenuator which i turn the signal down to good on the sony with but the interference was still there and i lost quest etc which i watch.
Again it is only the channel 60 programmes which are effected everything else in perfect.
Cheers again,
Rob

Well All,
Still puzzled over this one, signal strength on my Sony KDL37w5500 said the signal strength was high it does not show the quality, now i have this Alba set top box plugged in the signal strength says %100 but the signal quality says it is 9% and even lower but that cannot be right as the picture is not glitching and there is no sound issues.
So i cannot seem to find how the quality gets so bad and how i get the quality up, ariel aligned with a signal meter and had all the lights on, however what makes the quality low?
Sending me mad this one really, will update when i get the booster fitted but what is reducing the quality ?

Hi Pikpilot,
So let me get this right take the fittings off both ends, put the copper center and brade together at one end and then put a multi meter over the center copper and brade at the other end. What should the multi be set to and what reading should i get?
Is this correct?
Thanks again for all the help

Kidlington
Hi JB,
The TV model number is KDL37w5500, was working fine as i say up until a couple of weeks before xmas. Also there seems to be a lot of masts in kidlington and there is a tetra one close to me probably within 1/2 a mile but the interference is intermitant not all the time.
Cheers again JB for your help so far. just another question, am i right in saying that if it were the cabling then all channels would be effected not just channel 60?
Regards
Rob
