You need to contact sky and purchase what is called an I O Link, there is a port on your new sky box for this kit, it basically gives you back the rf in and rf out that you had on your previous stb.
You will also need to set the new sky box rf power to be on.
The link costs £25, but in using this you will get your freeview signal back as well as still be able to view the sky picture in the other rooms.
Alternatively check if the triax unit takes a 9v dc adaptor, if it does then fitting one would give you back your freeview only.

The masthead amp may be in your loft.
Its a box about the size of your palm.
If its on the aerial mast you should see it easily.

sounds like you need to replace the unit.
Maybe you should invest in the reliable HUMAX box.

Many people rely on the PLUS 1, you cannot simply get rid of them to please the minority, they need to be seen to accommodate the majorities needs.

JB38 is correct, however
If reception is difficult in your location you may well want to sacrifice the new HD channels on HP, making your system aerial VP will give a far superior signal.
With the strength the new channels will be radiated at such low levels some people may need to go back to large high gain aerials just to try and receive them.
With VP we can now install smaller aerials far less likely to be impacted by high winds.

Officially the answer to that is NO.
However I have seen a couple of random STB's that seem to be working with the record function.
Good luck :)
