All DAB transmitters

Hurrah. A greater choice of DAB radio stations with the introduction of Absolute 60's and Smooth Radio 70's. But wait a minute, Mono, in this day and age. Are we going back in time?

It seems to me that it's quantity over quality and I think this has to stop.

What's the new slogan then: Get a DAB radio with crystal clear AM sound quality without the AM fade. Or, The new sounds of a drain pipe.

Happy New Year.

Joseph K: If you look at this link: Postcode Checker - Trade View it will tell you your most likely or only transmitter is Emley Moor. I really think, if you rent, you need to speak to your landlord to get him/her to sort it. Or if you have purchased, the maintenance company responsible for the building.

Yes. Freesat. It's free. All you need to do is purchase the equipment, have a dish installed and bobs your uncle. That is of cause if your outside wall faces south south east.

It could be that someone (one of your neighbours) has access to the distribution amplifier and or the power supply to it and has tampered with it. That's the problem with some communal systems.

David Parker: If you look at the predictions on the map at the top of this page, you will see that reception is possible well into the Pontop Pikes area from Emley Moor, and in my experience, the signal can be received quite a distance outside this area.

I live close to York, yet can receive signals from Winter Hill and Waltham as well as the local Bilsdale, Emley Moor and Belmont transmitters.

David Parker: I have an 18 element group B aerial which is pointing toward Emley Moor. To stop signals from other TX's I have a group B band pass filter. A very good source of information is available here: Aerials, TV Aerial and Digital Aerial

On a side note, yes it is possible to receive Waltham here. I actually have a three element DAB aerial pointing at Waltham for Smooth Radio in stereo, as the national version is now only mono. (YO422QG)

I have a Pure One (original) and have 'cobbled' in four acquired Li-ion batteries, these last 24hrs on one charge. These are charged from a solar panel charger, so it doesn't have to cost the earth. On the other hand, if Planet Rock was to replace Capital on FM, I wouldn't need a DAB radio with it's lowering bit rates.

"Also, the mostly improved picture quality..."

Do you really think so?

As with DAB we are forced to have reducing bit rates to squeeze more channels/stations into a given mux - Digital TV: poorer picture quality, DAB: poorer audio quality. IMHO we should demand quality over quantity.
Virgin Radio used to be 160kbs and now Absolute is only 112kbs.

The main advantage DAB has, and the reason I have adopted it, is Planet Rock and Real XS. I could not stand the dross most of the independents play, over and over again.

I have a strange interference problem which happens at regular intervals, usually every three hours at 12:30, 3:30, 6:30 and 9:30 etc. I suspect that this is the SIM card in the solar panel meter situated in the loft close to the aerial distribution amplifier. I know it uses an O2 SIM and wonder if an Orange SIM would have been better?

jb38 thanks for your reply. The aerial is a relatively new 18 element Yagi group B model through a group B filter feeding the distribution amp with CT100 cable. Also connected to the amp is a 3 element DAB yagi facing the Waltham TX. Have tried connecting the main TV directly to the aerial feed and this does not help. On the TV, the signal remains at 100% but the quality drops to around 20%
