All posts by KMJ, Derby
Below are all of KMJ, Derby's postings, with the most recent are at the bottom of the page.David: There were reports of loss of signal on Belmont, Sandy Heath and Sheffield in addition to your own experience which would suggest that the inversion effect was to blame. Mark Fletcher in Halifax was able to receive a Dutch TV station on C32 for a short time... see his post on the Freeview on Belmont TV transmitter page.

Corin: It could have been that due to the inversion effect the signal on C42 from Sutton Coldfield was travelling further than normal and interfering with the Moel-y-Parc HD signal.

Russ: Mux ArqB from Sudbury is now transmitted on C63. You will need to do a factory reset to erase the memory of the channels on the old frequency before rescanning, or alternatively delete the channels on Mux ArqB from your channel list then do a manual tune on C63.

Frank: The unusually good weather is resulting in transmissions from the continent and some parts of the UK to travel further than normal due to the Inversion effect. This has resulted in reception being blocked in some areas, with Crystal Palace, Sandy Heath and Belmont frequencies in particular being affected. The situation is predicted to improve later this afternoon and over night, but ducting could recur later tomorrow and over the weekend.

yes: Remember that the COM muxes will be transmitted at 100kW from 27th June 2012, when the frequency of Mux ArqA changes to C60-, SDN to C58 and ArqB to C56. Group "E" or wideband aerials will be required to receive all the frequencies in use from that date. Problems will mostly be caused by old group "B" aerials still being in use, or boosters delivering too much signal when all muxes are at full power.

Delenn: ArqB was 64QAM, 8k mode from switchover in order to carry Sky Sports. One factor that we do not know is whether the radiation pattern is identical to that on C50, or if in fact a different antenna is now in use.

ALAN HILL: Mux BBCA on C53+ is using the former Channel 4 analogue frequency so is able to radiate full power (100kW). The COM muxes however are using frequencies that are also in use temporarily in the Meridian region, so power is restricted to 12.5kW until 18th April 2012, after which the power increases to 50kW. If you are missing signals in the C53-C55 part of the band it suggests single frequency interference around C54, maybe from a VCR or Sky box, or if you have an amplifier on the aerial possible signal overload from Mux BBCA. Also check cables and connectors and try changing the position of any leads connected to the receiver.

paul davis: Yes, Corfe castle will transmit Mux BBCA from 7th March 2012 and then from 21st March 2012, Mux D3+4 and Mux BBCB (HD channels) will also be transmitted.

Paul Ebans: The current weather conditions are predicted to give a fair chance of tropospheric ducting over the Heathfield reception area. This would explain why, if say Crystal Palace signals are traveling further than normal which could give interference on Mux1 (C34) or Mux2 (C29) from Heathfield. You could even be affected by transmitters in South Devon or the North of France. See the page on What is the inversion effect. Alvaro: In addition to Dave Lindsay's advice, if you still do not find any signal when scanning, check that the aerial cable is continuous from the aerial with no splitters or amplifiers installed that should be powered via a power supply which was taken away by the previous resident, also there are no breaks in continuity in other rooms where other equipment such as a VCR used to be connected.
