Below are all of KMJ, Derby's postings, with the most recent are at the bottom of the page.C.Boydell: Check that your receiver is tuned to the correct frequency for the East Midlands. At your location Belmont and Waltham are almost in line and it is possible that Belmont channels occupy the "normal" positions in the channel list and Waltham channels are stored in the 800s. If this is not the problem, do you have any amplification on the aerial? If so it is possible that signals are too strong, in which case an attenuator would need to be inserted in the aerial feed to the receiver if it is not possible to reduce the gain on the amplifier, or remove it altogether- not so easy if it is a masthead amp!

Stuart Wood: The number of channels you receive depends on which signals are available in your area and whether you have the correct aerial to receive them. If you have an aerial pointing to Ladder Hill (mounted with rods vertical) you are predicted to have excellent reception on the three PSB muxes only, as this is a Freeview Lite transmitter. You are also predicted to be able to receive all six muxes with good reception (but slightly lower signal strength) with an aerial pointing to Winter Hill- Aerial required is group C/D or wideband, mounted for horizontal polarisation and pointing NW. Reception is subject to there being no obstructions such as trees or tall buildings blocking the signal path.

BOB: If the VCR is equiped with an analogue only tuner, or a digital tuner that does not support the 8k mode you will not be able to find/store channels on it. The only way you will be able to record anything will be to add a Freeview box (or satellite or cable box) to supply a suitable input.

Charlotte Tenneson: Were you watching ITV1+1 or ITV1HD when you saw the Meridian weather? If so it would be because at present there is no Anglia version of these two channels. If you were watching ITV1, however, it is possible that signals from Oxford were received and the channels stored when rescanning, in which case look for Anglia ITV1 in the 800s of the channel list.

Sam: It is likely that this receiver is a model that does not support the 8k mode, so will not work after switchover.(The 28DS20 which has the same chassis is on the list of such equipment). You will need to connect a Freeview box to this receiver to continue viewing digital terrestrial transmissions.

Brendan: Check if your receiver is on the list of equipment that does not support the 8k mode. If it is you will need to connect a Freeveiw box to it to continue receiving terrestrial tv.An aerial which gave good analogue reception before switchover should be perfectly ok now. It is usually only installations with over-large aerials or high gain amplifiers that might now be providing too much signal to the Freeview tuner that will need attention in the Oxford region.

Alan Fumagalli: Could you be more specific about which channels work correctly and which give signal quality of 1? The note regarding Tacolneston is to the effect that currently due to sharing the same frequencies with Tacolneston, the transmissions from Belmont on Mux ArqA (Sky News, Dave etc) and Mux ArqB (Film4, ITV4 etc) are at reduced power until 23rd November 2011.

John Thorndike: The Digital Uk postcode checker shows you are predicted to have excellent reception from Emley Moor on all six muxes. Check that the correct set of channels have been stored, as it is possible that weaker signals from Bilsdale or Belmont were found first during the scan and those channels stored in the "normal" positions in the channel list. If so, Emley moor channels might be stored in the 800s. If this is not the problem, do you have amplification ( a booster) on the aerial? If you do, there might be too much signal following switchover, this results in an apparent weak signal/ poor quality being indicated. If removal of the booster or turning down the gain is not possible, fit an attenuator in the aerial feed to deliver a usable signal strength.

Mrs Jackson: Do not retune when the transmitter is off the air. This would not restore the service and if you remove the channels from your channel list you will not know when the transmitter is back on air. The BBC are aware of the problem, but no time is given for resumption of service.

david fitzpatrick: No, S4C is only transmitted on Mux D3+4Wales. This is carried on Storeton Wales (aerial pointing NW at 312 degrees and set for horizontal polarisation) and Moel-Y-Parc (aerial pointing W of SW at 239 degrees). Your aerial when receiving Winter Hill should point NE, so really will give minimum pick up of Storeton Wales at your location. When receiving Storeton Wales on the North Wales coast Winter Hill and Storeton are roughly in line so only one aerial is required in the target service area.
