My Freeview box has no EPG, is blank on FIVE, ITV3, ITV4, ITV2+Thursday 13 December 2012 11:21AM
Rotherham
Hello again.
Roof aerial on mast with loft mounted distribution amplifier. Aerial pointed at Emley Moor.
Following changeover had an issue with Belmont's increased power and channel changes impacting on Channel 21 - now resolved.
Since changeover however the EPG on my LG 32" TV is very haphazard, will run OK for a day or so and then blank out and begin filling in again.
I have cleared the stored channels and re-tuned no end of times and it makes no effect, with the EPG blanking out a few minutes after populating following a re-tune.
Signal strength and quality are over 90%.
Two other TVs fed by the amplifier are unaffected.
Can anyone offer any suggestions as to what is the issue - even if this is an LG tv issue.
Thanks
Dave

JB38. Thanks for the response.
No I've not found a solution. The TV continues to work perfectly APART from the EPG which blanks at random intervals and then refreshes after a few more minutes. The interval can be quite short but typically when viewing the EPG it will be complete - after a few seconds some of the channel details will disappear and "NO INFORMATION" is displayed. Leave it for another 10-15 seconds and the missing data will begin to re-populate.
The only began happening immediately following SWITCH-OVER.
Any thoughts from anyone would be gratefully received.
Thanks

Thanks JB38. Sorry for the delay in responding, something called Christmas...
Yep, we are 14 miles from Emley Moor, and we are at the bottom of a valley. The aerial is chimney mounted on a 6' pole. I can't see us getting "too much signal", but I will check and insert and attenuator as necessary.
Your suggested test. TV ON, Full EPG, Put in Standby and remove aerial. Power back on and EPG is totally empty, "NO INFORMATION" displayed in all cells.
TV is an LG 32" model 32LC2D and is approx 7 years old.
Once again, anything you can suggest would be of great use.

Thanks jb38, for the responses and information contained, much appreciated.
So it looks like a failed memory chip, faulty power supply and / or tuner.
It's just strange that the problems only occurred immediately following digital switch-over.
As a final question, since changeover we have also noticed that, at random intervals, we loose all signal for a fraction of a second, just long enough for the screen to hang, pixellate seriously and then refresh. This happens on all of out 3 TVs and is suffered by our neighbours - those not converted to SKY. Any thoughts?
We have Virginmedia cable (via a SCART) and suffer no issues when using their service - also a separate Sony Hard Drive recorder (via HDMI) that's just excellent, so I'd suggest the TV display is OK.
So, time for a new TV. Any suggestions for a 40-42" ?
Thanks again...

jb38. Once again thanks for your time and the information.
The LG TV has never suffered with having 'the Belmont' issue, detailed earlier, as it appears to select the best of any duplicate signal and so BBC1 from Belomont is super-ceded by BB1 from Emley Moor., however I did wonder if this hidden duplication could have an effect on the EPG.
The channel memory was cleared and (as per your instructions) C47 was manually tuned. The EPG was fully populated and was fine for about 10mins when it cleared....
A retune (manually) of C47 and the C44 was done and the EPG populated. All appeared fine for 10 or so mins when I turned the TV off, left it for 5 mins and then turned it on again only to find that the EPG was totally clear.
A full (manual) tune of C44, 47,48,51,and 52 was done and the EPG certainly appears 'better', but now sometimes a few channels clear and occasionally all channels clear BUT they re-populate very quickly indeed.
So in summary it looks like the Belmont signal was having an effect - albeit slight, but there is a tuner / memory issue.
The EPG of the Freeview tuner in my Sony recorder works without issue - so clearly it's the TV.
Thanks again for your time and the analysis.

jb38. Once again my continued thanks for your input.
Cleared the TV and manually scanned C25 (ITV) and got 8 channels of limited quality from Belmont. EPG complete and without issue for over 10mins - very good.
Added in the Emley Moor channels (44,47,48,51,52), the EPG populated and within a minute had begun to loose information.
The usual mechanism is that the EPG information either states "NO INFORMATION" or if you are in the EPG and moving between channel information the remote 'locks', ie. you press the button to move and nothing happens for a couple of seconds (and key presses) and then the whole EPG clears.
Continued pressing of the EPG controls does nothing for a couple of seconds - and then reverts to normal - but all the information has gone. EPG repopulated in a few seconds thereafter.
Emley Moor signals are all 85-95%
So, if the low power Belmont signals offer a working EPG I may try adding a small attenuator into the signal path to see if the Emley Moor signals arn't just too strong... Worth a try.
Thanks again.
Best regards

Hi,
Thorpe Hesley which is west of Rotherham and near J35 of M1. We are at the bottom of a 3 hills and use a roof mounted aerial.
No issues prior to change over, however since changeover we are getting Mux 1 on Channel 22 (Belmont?) at a marginal signal level which is over-riding the stronger Mux1 on Channel 47 from Emley Moor on one of our receivers - seems to store in order scanned - not strongest signal.
All signals from Emley are excellent...
Aerial is Band B, horizontal and fitted to a 6ft pole on the chimney. - for past 25 years.
Signals are Fed through a 6 channel amp and multiplexed with an FM signal, to 3 TVs and an FM tuner.
Any simple (and low cost) solution?
