Cheers

Hi there,
I live at Kingsley Green just south of Haslemere on top of Fridays Hill. My aerial is a type A and is pointed at Rowridge HP.
Since the DSO I am receiving the 3 PSB Muxes from Rowridge and the 3 Coms from Midhurst. All signal strengths and qualities are 90-100% most of the time. However from time to time, maybe a couple of times a week, I will suddenly lose all signal from PSB1 and PSB3 from Rowridge together with all 3 Coms from Midhurst. PSB2 always remains unaffected maintaining a 95% strength and quality. There is no slow deterioration of signal...it just goes off. It will also come back on as quickly as it goes off...all or nothing! I repeat that PSB2 always remains unaffected so I fail to see that there can ce anything wrong with my aerial connections otherwise everything would go.
My signal has just gone off on these 5 psb/coms at 8:30pm. Is anyone else having difficulties? I suspect there is some sort of transmitter problems. Do the personnel at the transmitters always keep us informed of ongoing problems? And finally I cannot comprehend why I should lose signal from both Rowridge and Midhurst at the same time in the same instance. Can anyone advise?

Over the last 6 months my aerial engineer has identified that we are suffering from an continual underlying analogue interference apparent across all muxes. At certain times this results in visual break up and interference across all my freeview devices in the house on all muxes apart from HD,( and across the Midhurst transmission as well as Rowridge VP.)
This interference is preventing us from siting the aerial in the most effective position and therefore making the whole system even further prone to weak signal etc.
Geographically we are in an awkward position anyway in so much that, although we are only 3 miles from the Midhurst transmitter but because of the topography we are forced to point the aerial at Rowridge VP.
We are in Kingsley Green, situated between Haslemere and Midhurst.
All cabling in the house has been replaced to a high standard and the interference is definitely nothing to do with internal house appliances/c.heating/wiring etc.
Stringent investigation by my engineer shows that the amount of interference increases markedly as the aerial is raised to the apex of the roof. At present we have sited it on the south side of the gable in order to shield it from these incoming signals which appear to emanate from the north. This does make a marked difference but is not preventing the interference altogether.
I understand that analogue interference which affects the BBC muxes, deliberate or unintentional is a reportable offence. I intend to report this situation through the BBC website. Can anybody enlighten me as to any other avenues I can take? And......has anybody in the area have the same problem?
Thanks!

Jamie...thanks for your reply. In response the problem I have is nothing to do with signal strengths or quality...it is analogue interference. It is apparent using either a wideband or a group A aerial and has nothing to do with which transmitter its pointed at whether Hannington, Rowridge, Midhurst or even Crystal Palace. Whatever aerial or whatever transmitter the interference is there. My engineer is a fully qualified reputable installer and is absolutely meticulous. This must be locally generated analogue noise and I have reported that through the BBC website. Thanks for your advice though and I will keep you posted.

Hi JB38, you arre absolutely correct, determining whether our neighbours are suffering from the same effects is essential...unfortunately both our immediate neighbours have Sky which I would have in an instant except that we don't have direct line of sight for any satellite installation due to trees! There are a few more properties around us who do have Freeview so I'm going on a mission later on in the week to try and contact all these properties to see if anyone else is suffering. Thanks for your interest....in the meantime I think I'll revert to the bottle! This is really getting to me... Soooo frustrating!

Dave Lindsay: Hi Dave...appreciate what you say but geographically we are 1 and a half miles south of Haslemere and our aerial (A type horizontal) is pointed south west directly towards Rowridge. There is no chance that we receive any transmission from the Haslemere relay which is directly North East of us and obscured by Blackdown Hill.
Suffice to say that since I replied to Derek Green all of our channels are up and running again. However we do seem to be a slave of weather conditions and will probably have the aerial vertically positioned to get full advantage of the new power 200kw COMs increase. Thanks for your advice..be blooming glad when all these changes are over and done with!
