Digital switch-over problems
Brian Butterworth published on UK Free TV The Sutton Coldfield transmitter that serves Birmingham is having all the current analogue and digital services moved to a second temporary mast. This work was due to be completed last month, but the bad weather has not allowed the "air work" to be completed quickly.
With the power level reported to be about an eighth of normal, this has caused many people reception problems in second largest city in England.
Despite being close to the first digital switch-over in Whitehaven, it seems that people using the Bleach Green transmitter are unable to scan for Freeview services. However, they do work if the viewer manually tunes their box toC53, C57 and C60. "Digital UK says they are now working with Ofcom and the broadcasters to fix the problem".
Down in Cornwall, the Redruth transmitter is stuck in limbo. Cornish people can now watch digital TV from the transmitter and relays, but the commerical multiplexes are on the old power levels and old frequencies until 30 September 2009.
It would appear that the 30 September Freeview retune will be an important date nationwide.

Sound volume markedly reduced with HD freeview. At times volume has to be raised to maximum level. This applies to all hd channels. I have been told 'Compression' is the problem.
Will the problem be overcome sometime.?
I have a new Tv & aerial system.

Dee SS11 8SX - I have a Panasonic Quintex TV and a Gramax Box. Things worked well for awhile but now the TV light is on, and the Freeview light but no matter what I press nothing happens. It all worked well last night and the night before but shuts itself off overnight and then I can't reactivate it. I phone the local store Asda where I bought the box and they have been very helpful, but still this problem reoccurs. Hope you can help so that it can be activated of a morning. Sincerely Dee

Since last retune yesterday 18/4(amersham Bucks HP6 6SF) we have lost the Sky channel on kichen and bedroom tvs just get signal scrambled message or nothing. Main tv attached to Sky box is fine is there any additional tuning that can be done?

Peter B: If your Sky box feeds TVs in other rooms using conventional aerial leads, then it could be that the channel that it is using is now used by post-switchover digital signals. A digital signal interfering with an analogue picture will manifest as snow or grain.
The TV is probably (and really should be) fed by scart lead or HDMI lead which is why it won't be affected.
To test the theory that it is interference from a new digital channel, turn on one of the TVs and tune to the Sky box. Turn on the Sky box.
Then remove the terrestrial aerial lead going into the Sky box. If this is the problem, then the interference should subside and you need to change the RF out channel to a clear one:

Since the switch over I've had to retune my bedroom TV morning and evening because I lost BBC channels. Today I've lost all the BBC channels and no amount of retuning will get them back but again only on my bedroom TV with itegrated Freeview.

Lesley: You really have to provide your location so that the transmitter covering your area is known, but as far as your problem is concerned take out the aerial and carry out a re-tune without it being installed, this to blank out anything stored although a factory reset is always more guaranteed of success, but once the re-tune without the aerial is complete reconnect the aerial again and carry out another re-tune to load the stations back in again.
If the problem still exists after having done the aforementioned, come back with the model number of the box in question.

Peter B: Channel 37 should be clear for you to use but this may change in the coming years when the authorities finally make up their minds as to what is going where.

I am in WD6 postcode. I have a Wharfedale DVD Recorder & Digital Freeview Receiver which worked perfectly for receiving all freeview channels until the digital switchover on 18 April 2012 but now cannot get freeview. I have done all the usual troubleshooting tests - check correctly connected, back to factory default to change date/time etc- and can view freeview on the TV by attaching the wharfedale box via scart to another freeview box just using the w/dale box for the non-freeview functions. All I still get when I attach the w/dale box on freeview tuner is the blue tuner band so I cannot get to the freeview menu to install the freeview channels. Also error code E3750W appears on the w/dale front display. I understand that this code can mean loss of tuner signal. So it might be that the w/dale box is just not set up to receive the digital signal following switchover but welcome any suggestions to fix if anyone can help.

Following my query above for more information the Wharfedale Recorder/Receiver is a DVDRHD400F with 80GB Hard Disk Drive.
