Boxes that do not support both 2k and 8k modes
Some boxes are having problems during switchover supporting both modes at the same times:- Sharp TU-R160H
- Humax 9200T
- Thomson DTi 1000
The workaround appears to be to add the "8k" channel manually (C62 for Selkirk, for example) and then to do this procedure after switchover is complete: My Freeview box has no EPG, is missing Film4, Channel 4+1, no sound on ITV3 or the channel line up is wrong - ukfree.tv - independent digital television and switchover advice, since 2002
This is on top of the boxes that could not cope with the changes to the Network Information Table (NIT): Daewoo DS608P, Labgear DTT100, Triax DVB 2000T, Portland DP100 and these VCR/STBs: Daewoo SV900, Bush IDVCR01

It IS possible to record a TV freeview broard cast on a video recorder (VCR). I is possible to record via the scart socket in much the same procedure as recording from a camcorder. However, automated/timed recordings are less convienient as you need to leave the TV `on' to use its tuner for the reception, as the VCR's tuner is now defunct. If you dispose/recycle your VCR, you will NOT be able to play any of your video cassettes you may have a collection of.
Disposing of a perfectly servicable VCR recorder is following BAD advice! The same goes for disposing of a DVD recorder, there are workarounds for BOTH of these types of machine! ONLY the tuner sections of these machines are defunct, their recording facilities remain working!! They'll both record via the scart socket and the TV's scart output.
good luck on switching over

I am pleasantly surprised at how easily and well a videocasstte recorder records HD! Even the sound is great. DVD recorder is even better, with HD being really good. Both my recorders are Samsung's units, the videocassette unit is a nicam stereo 4 head unit unit. Tapecassettes are still available if you shop around.
My TV system is connected to my broardband connection, (Hitachi freeviewHD box) but it tells me that I am unable to stream video? can anyone enlighten me about what this is about?

I have a Humax F2 FOXT box and live in Brighton. I've retuned the box and can't receive a number of channels (including BBC1, BBC2 and BBC3 although BBC4 is fine). I have a Panasonic TV with a Freeview receiver running off the same aerial via a simple splitter and that is fine. I get a "no or bad signal" message for the BBC channels. Any ideas?

Dick: Check that BBC1 is tuned to UHF channel 60 for Whitehawk and not channel 24 which is Rowridge.
If it is tuned to Whitehawk, I wonder, could be too high a signal level? See Freeview signals: too much of a good thing is bad for you | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice

Thanks Dave, according to the preferences the UHF channel was set to 60. The signal strength was running at 59% for BBC1 and around 67% for other channels. As I said. most other channels are fine and I have all channels working fine off the same aerial on the Freeview tuner on my Panasonic TV.
I followed your link and did a reset to default values and a retune. BBC now seems set to 24 and although I'm getting BBC1 and 2 it's pixellated with a lot of interference and I'm still getting the message "no or bad signal". The signal strength is 34%.
Now I can't find a way to change BBC1 back to 60. When I look at the UHF parameter it says 60 but checking the channel it seems set to 24 again.
I'll give Humax a ring on Monday.
Thanks for your help!
Cheers
Dick

Dick: Fortunately Rowridge uses low channels and Whitehawk high ones. A simple way to stop Rowridge being picked up during the automatic tuning scan is to run it with the aerial lead unplugged until it gets to 50%.

Dick: Try removing the aerial plug from the Humax and holding it close (a centimetre or two away) whilst tuned to BBC1 on C60. You will need to run the scan with the aerial unplugged up to 50% to get it back on C60.
Unplug it with the signal strength screen on. Wait ten seconds or so for it to adjust and see if there is an improvement. The aim is to see if there is too much signal and holding it like that should loose some.
Another way of loosing some signal is, if it is a screwed together aerial plug, remove the metal outer part of the plug so that only the inner pin goes into the socket.
Or try using a set-top aerial if you have one as this will pick up less signal.
Not all equipment is the same and of the same sensitivity, so don't think that there is a fault with the Humax just because the Panasonic works fine.

Joanne: As your query is one involving a reception problem then its essential that you provide your location, with this preferably done in the form of a post code, as only then can the signal conditions expected in your area be assessed.
You could maybe also provide the model number of your Bush TV.
